I cut my hair once when I was drunk. I'd been on a course on how to do all those fancy techniques and went out on the town with a bunch of hairdressers and got pretty tanked up. When I got back to my hotel room I thought..( as you do)...'right I'm gonna try out some of those techniques...on myself"...
I got few sideways glances at breakfast.........
I do cut my hair now and then...but no fancy techniques...I save them for the unsuspecting victim in the chair!!!
One of my customers sent me these....you may have seen them before, but they are funny...................
GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:
1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptise cats.
2) When your Mum is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the
second
person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.
GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:
1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts.
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fibre, not the toy.
GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD
1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down
there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking
chair
that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to
ask
you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.
THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:
1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus.
4) You look like Santa Claus.
SUCCESS:
At age 4 success is . . . not piddling in your pants.
At age 12 success is . . . having friends.
At age 17 success is . . . having a drivers licence.
At age 35 success is . . . having money.
At age 50 success is . . . having money.
At age 70 success is . . . having a drivers licence.
At age 75 success is . . . having friends.
At age 80 success is . . . not piddling in your pants.
Hayley...I use the glue method too...mainly because I find it so much easier and neater to close the seams before they are attached to the bear. Also I found it stops the drift to the left or right that you sometimes get because of holding the bear in a certain way while it's stuffed.
My husband or my dad, do me a 100 or so bolt/disc sets so we always have a big box full...of different sizes ready to use. They don't take long to do (especially as I'm not doing them...!!!)and I find life so much easier now.
I use super-glue...but we use the gel type. The ordinary liquid one can run down the thread of the bolt and make tightening impossible. The trick with super-glue (so I was told by a cabinet maker) is to use very little...because by using a small amount you glue surface to surface...and not glue to glue when you put loads on...which becomes glassy and brittle when you try to tighten it. I used to have them break (which is a nuisance) but now they never do...
I use a nut-driver to tighten the nut....dead easy..has a 'T' shaped handle so it is gentle on the hands.

You see, this is the trouble with this mode of communication...it's so easy to get upset, upset someone or generally give people the wrong end of the stick....without any intention of doing that on the part of the person who posted the message. Similarly it's easy to think that every thing that gets said, gets said about 'me' or is aimed at 'me' and that's not true either.
I developed the rhino skin too...a long while back (probably coz my rear end now resembles one) but sometimes that has the effect of making me insensitive at times.
I didn't even read the post..if I did, I didn't notice anything untoward.
Oh Penny...I love your posts....you make the world a brighter place.
PS: A customer just emailed me and this was on the bottom of her message:
"A positive attitude may well not solve all your problems, but it will
annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."

Fab!!!!
Well ....here she is...she slept the whole time we were there..so this is the best I could do. I blubbed for the whole time too.
We think she looks like a little rosebud...she's much darker than it appears on these pictures ...we thought my first grand-daughter looked like a little toffee apple!!
Now I have to clean my house it's disgusting (you can imagine!!!)
Oh Julia....what lovely news....it's all baby, baby, baby isn't it!!!
IT'S A GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a marathon in the end....all going swimmingly till the baby decided to turn face upwards..causing major back problems for Louise. Then the epidural didn't work properly so they had to do it again....then they decided that she couldn't push her out so she had a caesarian section...so from 4.30am when I had a phone-call to say things had started...to 6.30 when my son called to say everything was happening really quickly...we heard nothing till 4.30 this afternoon. Of course I was cool as a cucumber......(as if)....pouncing on the phone every time it rang and telling everyone to 'get off the damn phone'....
But in the end she's here and they are as delighted as we are...she weighed in at 7lb1oz...and she's called Rosa-Bella...a family name. Rosie for short....
I will get pictures tomorrow...we aren't allowed to go tonight....
Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts...
Jenny
I just had a call from my son to say they've just taken her into the delivery room...he's really nervous the poor soul, Louise is astar! Only 2 hours since she went into labour and I'd guess we'll have a baby by 9.00am..I could be wrong but she's going like the clappers!!!
What a weekend I've had!!!!!!!
I'll keep you posted.....!!!!
No, they haven't a clue what flavour is coming...It's typical ...I promised I'd take my mother out shopping today...so I shall be hanging on to my mobile phone for dear life!!!!
I shall pace on Marks and Spencers carpet instead!!!!!
Hi Helena.....Yep, there are loads of products on the market with a type of silicone in that doesn't easily wash off the hair...so it builds up...why do you think they brought out 'build-up removing shampoo'? This silicone becomes brittle and coats your scalp...we see more dandruff these days than ever before. I recommend Aveda products which are all natural and have water soluble ingredients. For cheap and cheerful, I like Schwarzkopf...they don't test on animals and it's real good stuff....and reasonably priced. Not too fancy.
The GHD products are good too...and, from supermarkets...Toni and Guy range is great.
Anything that looks too high-tech...don't buy it....it's generally those ones...like all these fancy 2 in 1 shampoo conditioners, and the hair glossers that cause the problems..they make your hair feel fab when it's wet...and when it's dry it's all dull and lifeless.
It's 4.50 am and my son Olly, has just phoned to say his wife Louise has gone into labour, getting conractions every 3 minutes..so now I am pacing the floor.
It doesn't seem possible that my naughty little boy is soon to have a baby of his own....
I'd almost forgotten how nerve-janglingly exciting this bit is.....the waiting...I wish I could go through it with them!!
Watch this space.........................
The trick with using hair straighteners is to bend the ends under ...just slightly...or you are destined to look like a thatched cottage if you have straight hair. Do use an iron oil before hand (it has no oil in it ) ...or you can get ones that you use on dry hair. I like the GHD products...but there are plenty around, Toni and Guy ones are as good as any. Steer clear of Frizz-ease, silicone type products...what people call 'serum'....it's a nightmare and will build up on your hair and scalp giving you brittle hair, itchy scalp and if you colour your hair can affect the out-come.
I can't recommend the GHD straighteners highly enough....there is nothing else as good...and we've tried the lot...believe me!!
Good luck!!
Oh Kelly....you saved my life!!! I am so glad....I have a piece which I think I'd like to enter, but since I've had flu for nearly 3 weeks now, my table is going to look a bit empty tomorrow...and I really need to put this piece on the stand as an available item....I took some pictures earlier in the hope that I could just enter the photos....you don't know how pleased I am!!!
Thanks...you're a star!!!!
Can one of you knowledgeable ladies help me...I have been reading the rules of the Tobys...( I am thinking of entering...not 100% certain yet) in one rule it says that you can enter already sold Ooak pieces...then further along it says (off the top of my head rule 18 or 19) that items should be shippable in a standard UPS box.
Does that mean that if you are lucky enough to be shortlisted that you have to retrieve said sold bear from purchaser and send him in a box...or am I just being thick here???
Are the Golden Teddy awards the same basic principle....in the BBAAs (the British Awards) you have to send the actual bear for inspection.
I'd love to enter both of these awards, ( I have a piece that I am taking to the NEC fair tomorrow that's ..I think good enough...but I am worried about selling her in case I have to retrieve her...on the other hand I need to sell her since ...well, that's obvious!!!)
I did email the magazine but had no reply and as my fair is tomorrow I hope one of you might be able to help with your words of wisdom!!!!
There isn't one day I can put my finger on....but...
The days I gave birth to both my children changed my life forever..
The day I decided that I had to leave my first husband and that I could and would make it on my own...
The day I married my lovely, soft-hearted, devoted husband made me realise that there are good humans on the planet
The day I saw my daughter sitting holding her own baby in her arms is a picture in my mind that I shall cherish forever...
I hope there are more days like these......
Hi Daphne....it's not that they are that much cheaper....(well, the professional ones aren't here anyway)...it's just that they are designed to get into nooks and crannies. I bought a lip brush...which I use for eyes (duh)...it's a really pointy one...and stubby. I got an eyeshadow blender...again, short and stubby...and I am getting an eyebrow brush too...really hard and stubby..great for blending oils on fabric...
Just one more thing to try....make sure the rough side of the hardboard disc is up against the fabric...it offers more 'resistance' than the smooth side....
Jenny
Hi ....Yes Shelli....It works for me too....I love the fact that I can mix colours...and also add lighter shading to dark areas......Fab!!!!
One thing I have discovered though and it's only a little thing...I wasn't getting on with any of the brushes from the art shop.....not stiff enough...so I went to our local beauty warehouse, where I have a trade card, and bought professional make-up artist brushes...they are marvellous and relatively inexpensive ....first, they are great shapes for the nooks and crannies of eyes and faces, second they are stiff as anything...and third, they hold their shape.
No looking back now...thanks Shelli....you're a bloomin' star!!!!
Jenny
Goodness knows Amanda I feel old enough this week to be a Great-Grandma...I have had a nasty dose of flu or something and I can tell you there will be very few bears on my table at the NEC on Sunday!!!
I always think 'Twas the night before Christmas' is a great theme for seasonal bears....
and icicles....
I once got a yellowy stain out of a pair of wedding shoes using a mixture of warm water, washing up liquid and a small amount of bleach. It had no affect on the fabric as is was very weak...but got the stain out brilliantly.
They were fabric shoes by the way...!!
I don't know whether I'm to be a nana, nannie, granny, grandma...as all we get right now is babble! I guess they find their own name for you...as one of my customers husbands ended up being called Bam-Bam and the childish version of Grandad has stuck for 18 years!!
My second grand-child is due next week.........!!!!! Double joy!!!!
Try as I might I can't get anything done today.....my little grand-daughter Elizabeth is the focus of my attention. She makes my heart leap every time I see her....it's a wonderful relationship.
I need to get on with the bears but who could resist a game or two with her...
Jenny
