StarHawk2003

Hi everyone,

I have over the last week or so been making a bear from Nancy Tillberg's book. The pattern was the Realistic bear, I have put together a few different choices, like arms and legs as they are all interchangable.

I decided after sewing it all up, that I didn't like the head looking upwards that much so went to cut out the Antique bear head as it does have an option for the neck wedge. I noticed that the antique bear head gusset wasn't shortened for neck wedge, so I shortened it. But now, the fabric circle for the neck opening doesn't fit by allot, like 15cms?

Now I'm thinking what can I do? Maybe the Realistic bear head gusset would fit? I don't want to cut them out as I don't have much fabric left...

I didn't want to email nancy directly as she is busy... with, well allot of things!

Any idea guys and dolls

Thank you everyone!

I am going to take into account, even though it looks like a deal, it usually isn't!

I am looking into the Paasche h, I don't think I would be able to use a dual one right now! Although, Paasche seems to be allot cheaper in the US then the UK.

I am currently, taking a peek at the Badger brand Single airbrushes, I am looking for one with a small size needle (I think thats it) to a bigger size. I want to do smaller detail too, what allot of the cheaper ones don't.

After reading about the canned propellent I think I will have a look into more like the compressors. I really can't have a noisy air compressor, I have heard one, my sister in law has one for her re upholstery business for staple gun and such, my oh my, make me jump every time I hear it come on. We have a baby in the house, so he sleeps allot, so a compressor would be a bad idea. I do however like your use judi, the CO2 tanks. I have done a quick search and have no idea where to even look into getting one in the UK, never mind refilled! I presume they are like helium tanks they use for ballons... but CO2.

Any more advice on the CO2 tanks?

Thank you for you time,

Richy~

bear_whistle  Now, I am actually re thinking my technique of backstitch!

My brother has sewn a little of my new bear, yes, you get a good peek at what the fabric is bear_tongue

Here is my brothers sewing, front and back.
gaz_stitch_front.jpg

gazstitchback.jpg

You see, he sews it like a back stitch, but instead of going back into the old hole, he goes half way between.... The pics will explain more!

Here is mine.
mystitching.jpg

I go into the old hole and carry on that way... Now, I have problems with my stitching showing, could this be why? I am making the hole bigger with double the amount of stitches in the same hole?

Is my brothers way right?

How EMBARRASSING! I don't even know how to do back stitch!

Hi,

I am thinking of getting an airbrushing kit. I was thinking of getting a kit that is attached to an air can. Can I at a later date, if I wish attach it to a air compressor would that be possible?

I was thinking of getting this one...

I've not tried this but I have heard it works:  Put a cup of coffee beans in a box with the bear.  Put a lid on the box and keep it closed for one week.

Let me know if it dies.....er, does.  Little typo there.  Ha!

Warmest bear hugs,
Aleta

Aleta,

That reminded me of a few years ago when my granma said about getting nice scented paper was too put a ream of paper in a box with cotton wool balls soaked in an essential oil. Leave for a week and the paper is then scented.

Coffee paper sounds, Wonderfull!!

*Sorry slightly off topic there*

I have heard of but not tried by myself, place a bowl of water with a cut up lemmon in the microwave for 3 mins, Take out the bowl and put the bear in the microwave, with some heiste, let sit for 5 mins and apprently, takes the smell of SMOKE out of faux bear fur. *Caution do NOT turn the microwave on with the bear inside*

Maybe it will help?

StarHawk2003

I'm interested in this topic too, my fur is pretty much the same.

I am going to line it, but maybe I need to make the fur more supple too?

Richy~

StarHawk2003

I would hang it outside to air for a while. I'm not sure about using fabreeze.. Do you think the leather would be ok?

If you do however, have any greasy spots, use bran. When I used to breed and show my Russian blues, we would never give them a bath, it strips all the oils out of the coat and there coat would go flat as it is very plush

Our bran bath would consist of, heating some bran in the oven for about 10 mins until warm, then rubbing it into the coat against the grain. leave in as long as possible and brush out or shake out.

-WARNING- If giving a cat a bran bath, don't shake the bran out

Hi,

I am thinking of working with a real fur bear... After a little thinking, I was wondering, how do you sculpt real fur eye sockets?

With mohair and such, I would come out the back of the head and go back in the same hole, But with fur, would that not produce holes in the back of the head, in the leather?

Any ideas?

My dream studio.... Well... It would be a room attached to the house.. big windows for light and plenty of over head light. It would have a tall pattern cutting table in the middle of the room so my back doesn't feel like it will break at any second!  It would have a sewing and overlocking/serger table with a wheely high back chair so I can roll around the room without having to get up and move the chair. It would have another work station right next to it... for trimming, jointing etc. Plenty of shelving above the tables, with tools and threads. It would have glass door cupboards to store fabric in one and mohair in the other. I would also have a camping stove and sink for dying fabrics and washing my hands.  At one side of the studio it would have A cat run about 6 ft long and high by about 4ft wide, with a cat flap to an bigger outside run. That way I can have cat company, without her having to sit on my lap, work, fabric piles, patterns or on my laptop! Plus running around around with peices of fabric or thread! It would have wooden floors and heating and air con. I can't stand warm rooms while working, gets me agitated!

My work station at the moment, Its a dinning room, with little to no storage, fabric everywhere and a table that basicly takes up all the room! I would just LOVE to leave my sewing machine out all the time!

Ah... dreams dream dreams!

Hey,

I have recently installed this Panda gadget on my laptop! It is amazing, you get a live feed from a zoo, straight to your desktop of a panda or 2!

I have been sitting here for quite a while now watching him or maybe her eating, it is just amazing!

Here are a few screen pics I just took.

**WARNING** Don't install if you have a life, or want to lead one!

I believe it is a Vista only application though and if you install it and its dark, dont worry, its just night!

Take care,

Hello everyone,

I have 3 unrelated questions, but bear related all the same!

1. I have started to play around with a free ebay template, that I have added new borders and such. My question being, how do you upload them to ebay when I am putting up my auction?

2. Can you make wool felt for paw pads yourself? I was thinking it's a nice touch to make your own. Would they be suitably strong enough?

3. Can you cut out bear peices then dye them. I'm not sure, i've heard they string or go out of shape a little. I didn't want to dye a whole peice of mohair as i'm getting an unbleached peice and May want to use it in a different colour for another project?

I'm sure some of your wonderfull ladies have the know how, or maybe one of you few men :P

Take care,

Richy :hug:4

EDIT: Can you dye viscose, it's in some mohair I want from Loubear?

StarHawk2003

I have to agree with what everyone else says. I would first of all, send them an email, including pictures and explain it's not useable! I would also push for a refund. You can pretty much tell why it's on offer!

I had the exact same thought All bear, A loofa!

If you can't get a refund Maybe use it for testing out new patterns. See what the shape looks like made up. You could line it I guess if you wanted also?

Well, good luck! Keep us posted of what happence!

Hi,

I just got an industrial sewing machine, The Juki 555. I have a few questions I can just not find out. Is a walking foot a type of Sewing machine Or is it a foot attachment? I Never realized It had to be a "Walking foot" machine before I got it.... Opps.

Help me please, Or direct me to websites where the question would be more appropriate.

Thank you,

Hairless cat's have been documented for over a hundred years. The most comman today is the Sphinx.

Breeders have bred for the overall look of a hairless cat and most breeders aren't out to make a profit. The pure passion for the breed is noted in most breeders. I could go on for hours and hours, regarding Russian blues. I have at the moment taken a break from breeding.

If you look back at quite a few breeds they have just "popped" up from domestic cats. For example the Cornish Rex. The first Cornish Rex popped up in a farm cat litter and off it went into being a well known and wonderful "pixie" breed it is. Also It is a Semi sparse haired breed.

The prices of Sphinx is just one of those breeder things. It can be pretty hard to explain but I will try my hardest.

To breed a Queen (female whole cat) you need a perfect queen who is closest to the SOP (Standard of point). To buy such a good queen will cost you alot more then it would to buy a pet kitten. Then you need to feed the best food, best litter, Vacs. etc. To breed you queen you need to find a complimenting stud who isn't related and who is a good example of his breed. Stud fees cat be silly prices, upto 1,000's of pounds in certain breeds. If you add it all up, you do get a pretty high price tag of what a kitten costs. I don't believe I know a breeder who makes a profit more then 100 pounds and that just goes right back into the next stud fee.

The second option is, Lack of gene pool. With a new breed such as Sphinx there arn't that many unrelated cats in one country. So it means importing cats from other countries to widen the gene pool.

Third is, Breeders charge say 1 thousand pounds for a kitten. If you breed and sell your kittens for 700 pounds who would you go too? Ok, Some may say the cheapest, but if the usual going price has became 1 thousand, doesn't the 700 pound breeder sound a little weird? Are they doing something different, are there diets not as good? They must be taking a short cut somewhere.

I know when I advise people who call me when I have or havn't got kittens, Go for what they want, even if it  means I don't make a sale. If I think a boy would be best suited and I only had girls, I would advise them to contact other breeders. I would give them a price range and tell them not too buy too expencive or too cheap. I would tell them what to ask for and what too look for.

Overall, breeders general don't make a profit, I wish we did. But we all do it for the fun and the improvment of the breed.

Hi Laura, I just cut out this little guy to make him up, Then It struck me, What is the seam allowence! It can't be a 1/4 inch...

Any body know?

Richy~

StarHawk2003

Sphinx are actually really sweet cats. Yes, they do need suntan lotion on if they go outside, but with a pedigree cat, or a cat in general I wouldn't let them outside.

Sphinx aren't actually hairless, they feel like a peach! They are actually really nice! I just love um! bear_original
