Chrissi, I think you should definitely go for it.  I made miniature sock monkeys wayyy back in my teens, and I thought they were the cutest lil' fellers---and I definitely agree that they would have your own spin on them, which would make 'em Catherwoods sock monkeys, and totally unique!  I can't wait to see what you come up with!

---which, I think I'm gonna dig out some of my sock monkeys and make a bear to go with 'em!  Thanks for the thought!

..those look like laminated paper wings, Rita, and perhaps if you purchased a kit from her you'd know?

I know on eBay, seller Patricia Legg of enchanted-glass makes wings that are quite beautiful.

I needlesculpt before I put in the onyx beads, it helps me get 'em more level and centered.  I have done it without sculpting first, but you get the eyes in much deeper if you needle sculpt as opposed to if you didn't.

I also confess to trying the mini glass eyes Intercal has---they are simply MARVELOUS!  Love the flatbacks, I still needlesculpted with 'em but liked the effect much more than simply black onyx.

..I have trouble creating when I'm troubled.  bear_sad  Being unhappy in one area of my life spreads to all other areas, and I think if I can just concentrate on the one area and make it better things will be okay---but it doesn't work when the state of being unhappy isn't getting fixed straightaway.  Then I'm just knackered, I hunker down and wait out the blues.

Amelia

fribblesltd

..no, they shouldn't be able to get your personal information that way, Ellen.  I reported via both links you gave, Laura.

Amelia

Er.  I dunno.  I think my doggy looks like me---at least, we have the same color of hair and it poofs out all over [he's a Pomeranian]...but my bears don't have my long pointy nose and small eyes, in fact, they have rater bulbous noses and BIG luminous eyes!  Haha!  Maybe I'm making 'em deliberately NOT like me.

I think my avatar photo is the one of me wearing sunglasses, so here's one of me where one can see my face:

Denise, I would love to be your friend!  Your link doesn't work though.  Mine is:

bear_original  I just started my page yesterday, am off to search for more bear artists!

...oddly enough, I feel more like an artist after I take photos and put 'em up on the web.  Maybe because I'm a computer geek?  I love my little teds, and I think of them fondly, but I'm also aware that since I created 'em I'm going to be very biased about 'em, so I have a tendency to sort of belittle 'em simply because they're mine.  Which is wrong of me, but that's the way I view it.

Once I get them online, where I can look at them in their entirety and see large amounts of fribbles, each one different from the next, that's when I think I'm sort of an artist---because I made ALL of those, and isn't that incredible?  I spend lots of time looking at my own gallery, in awe that I've created that many bears [w00t!  over 50 at last count! which is simply mind boggling to me] and that they all have their own separate and distinct personality and memory in my heart...and they make me happy.  When they've made someone else happy too, I feel wonderful about that.

..it really depends upon the type of clay you use.  Sculpey isn't good for strength, however Kato and Fimo are great.  I would try either one of those any day, simply because of the strength and the flex that those two clays have.

Amelia

Awwww, Chrissi!!  I'm so sorry!  Although I must say, Forest is simply gorgeous!!

---I'm breaking out my rollerblades and am going to skate in my office building's basement [it's an historic 1920s building with a ballroom upstairs] to start getting ready for spring---saw some robins, the first of the year, today!  As for cutting out pop, I wish I could, but pop and coffee aren't my vices---sugar in the form of candies, cakes and cookies are!!  *sob*

I agree, exercise is the way to go.

Best of luck to all of us!

...no, the screen won't stretch it to fit, all the sizes are defaulted to a regular page size for printing and etc. if you are typing about Word documents and processing, etc., then it's that way.  However, if you have a graphics program, you do have to size the area you are working on.  Did that make sense?

Amelia

My husband watches NickToons on the weekends [men and cartoonies---what IS it??!!] and so I've gotten a couple glimpses of the trailer---it's so awesome to see Mimzy, I get shivers up and down my spine when I see the spiral pattern now!  I can't wait to see it either!!

Amelia

fribblesltd

..Kim was kind enough to give me some pointers using that process, and I must say it has helped IMMENSELY, because I had no previous experience with translating how I wanted the bear to look to the pattern---I just picked interesting shapes and went from there.  I highly recommend the way Karen and Kim do it---it is so much easier for me to translate it to 3-D from 2-D.

I never tried to use graph paper for it though!! Wow, Jennifer, I bet that poor clay figure had a heck of an acupuncture treatment by the time you were thru!!  =P

Amelia

*LOL*  Mine was doing that December 2005---

Look-at-me--.jpg

They both have the same look in their eyes!!

Sir Wynnstan is absolutely adorable, so cute!!!

Amelia

fribblesltd

Pauline, my thoughts EXACTLY!!  What if that darling little kitty wakes up suddenly?  OWIE!!!

Amelia

fribblesltd

Roxanne, my inlaws got back last night and I missed the end of your auction.  Thank you so much for making more of the bunnies, I absolutely fell in love with your recent one, and I was so disappointed to miss the auction---very nearly cried with frustration!---meant to do it the instant I got home and then wound up not going home!  Aurgh!

Am very relieved you will have more bunnies!  Do you have any sneak peeks?

Amelia

fribblesltd

Laura Lynn, same thing happened to me, only I got a figure skating magazine!  Cory is fixing it for me too, he's sending out new issues.  bear_original  They must be super busy with requests for the Face Book magazine issue!!

Amelia

fribblesltd

..ooooooh, I love the two colours of fur, the winsome look on that small face, and the mouth!!  WOWZA!!  open-mouthed minis---I shudder to think at the work involved!!  Vicki is such a great mini artist!!  You lucky duck, Kim---and Vicki, you lucky duck too, that's a gorgeous bear from Kim too---Kim, I love the way your bears have such lovely, expressive eyes---gorgeous!!

Did both of you decide to do two-toned bears?  It's cute how they are both brown and white!!  =)

Amelia

fribblesltd

Shari, I am so sorry..  bear_sad  *big comfort pats*  Am certain there will be more opportunities in the future, and like Judi suggested, an ad really helps get your name out there and am sure your bears would really make an impact!

..in regards to getting a copy of the magazine, I called TB&F and ordered two copies of it from them...unfortunately, the two copies that arrived at my door were of a figure skating magazine!! Have just notified 'em of it and Cory is going to resend the correct magazines out to me straightaway...am very anxious to see!!

Amelia

fribblesltd

..oooh, Jen!  Congratulations, you are now a sassy addict!  And can't wait to see your mini!  w00t!

Amelia

..I sometimes use my hemostats for turning.  As for eyes, with black onyx bears you get a bit of a protruding buggy look---I've only recently gotten some black glass eyes, and I honestly adore using 'em, as it totally eliminates the Betty Davis eyes.  =P

Here's one little guy with black onyx bead eyes---as you can see, they protrude a wee bit.

PICT0169.jpg

..which is sometimes cute in a small bear..I like the eyes on my little cowboy beary.  You can get the black onyx beads on eBay, but be warned, the 3mm size [which is perfect for minis] is usually $4-5 MORE than all the other sizes...inflation because of the popularity of mini bears.

If you want to go with black glass eyes with the flat backs, I highly recommend Intercal's eyes---they are simply marvelous!

Amelia

fribblesltd

Lisa, INCREDIBLE job on him!!  Would that my first bear looked like that---but alas, much less adorable and bearly  =P  there!  Congratulations on a wonderful teddy, can't wait to see more of your work!!

Amelia

fribblesltd

Krista, I just ordered another pound of the stuff off eBay---if you like I can ship you some to try out.  I've never used it for noses, never thought of it...it's soooooo sticky to work with.  Would be interested to see how a nose would come out made of it, so let me know if you'd like some!

*waves*

Best,

Amelia

fribblesltd

Krista, I talked with Live Help because a friend of mine over in the UK was having that problem.  They said they were going to fix it, but the auction ended Sunday night and it was still showing up only intermittently.  I'm not certain how to fix it.
