Here is a better definition: a person who acts as a decoy or confederate of a barker, peddler or gambler in order to influence bystanders to bid, buy, bet etc...
they are usually friends or relatives of ebay sellers who put in phony bids to drive up the price... they know they will not have to buy the product at the end of the auction... the seller will notify the next lowest bidder that they have won, usually claiming non payment by the winning bidder.. (their buddy)... and voila... the second highest bidder just bought somebody's product for more than they would have...... in this case...a bear. Actually it goes on quite a bit even without the hidden bidder option...
As a buyer:I've been offered items as the next lowest bidder before, it didn't occur to me, that this might be happening, but I've never bought that way, so if they were doing this to me, they lost out.
As a seller: I always put a start price, and that price is the lowest price I'd accept for what I'm selling, that way anything else is a bonus and I'm happy.
Shell bidding is dishonest (and I don't think even once is ok).
What is shill bidding?
oh so cute.
I love the bears in your banners on the different pages. The website is looking good. I've downloaded the needlefelting instructions as I'm a beginner, and I'm sure they will be useful. Thank you. I've put your site in my fav's and I'll be sure to return.
Some people seem to just get pleasure out of being nasty to others. It's called sour grapes. You are probably doing, what they can't.
I've never been to a Teddy fair, but I've lived long enough to meet such rude people. I've had a lady point to my first baby in a pushchair and declare loudly 'that's the ugliest baby I've ever seen' and then she laughed (cackled) and I had the same sort of thing done at animal fairs, where we had ferrets on a ferret rescue show (educating the public)
I react one of two ways, depending on how 'strong' my confidence is at that point. Either I ignore such remarks but stare into the womans face while remaining silent or I ask (calmly with a pleasant look of concern on my face) them "why they like being to hurtful and nasty?" " Do they get pleasure out of it or don't they realize how rude they have just been?" I found most look embarrassed or say sorry with the second response.
I love the SueAnn's quote "If you don't want them to get your goat, don't tell them where you hid it."
Adorable, impossible not to love.
wow fantastic.
I think you've been given great advice. ..and remember sometimes it does work out. I married my hubby at 20 and so many people told me not to marry him that I was too young, but I'm now 45 and still happily married.
Just be there for her, support her decisions, let her know you are there for advice, should she want it and if all goes wrong, don't be a 'I told you so'.
"I will be woken every morning by a cockerel .. that will be a novelty! "
I bet that's a novelty that will wear thin..lol (perhaps a cockeral roast could be planned soon, as a house warming? )
Good luck, we moved just over a year ago, after being in the same house for about the same time as you. I miss my friends (but you're not moving far so that should be alright for you) but apart from that it's GREAT! I hope you really feel at home fast and enjoy your new space.
oh they are so sweet. I love the second bear in baby blue.
You've done a great job on him! And hey, I just looove the "teddy ferret" in your avatar! I have gotten three ferrets at home (alive once I mean
) and I know that I just HAVE to make some stuffed ferrets! I just haven't figured out the pattern yet... wish me good luck with that
I'll have to change the ferret pattern now and give it some joints..lol at the moment they are sewn in legs and arms, as I'd never done joints before. Good luck with making ferrets, I want to make lots of different ferrets in future too.
Thank you every one for the kinds comments.
aww so clever.
Is nearly finished..
Well his head and body have not been completely closed up, they just LOOk like they have, the head is just pinned on at the moment. I want to do more with the nose and with shading. Also more with the paws, but until the joint for the neck arrives he'll do.
Tomorrow I'll start the next chapter on the 'teddy design' course, I'm loving it.
These pic's aren't good, as it's night here and bad light, but it give you a little idea, what he's like. (the bottom pic is closest to his true colour)
In these pic's he looks a little foxy or angry, but he doesn't look fox like or annoyed,he has a smile really
For my first bear, I'm pleased so far.
I don't always post, but I always look at the 'cute pic of the day' too. They always make me say 'aww'. ...better than any dentist can!
eBay sells leather cord, if you get stuck.
.and I thought bears were so innocent. Not many innocent things left in the world.
Def a boy.
He is so lovely. Love him.
Cool!!! I think we do!!!
ok I admit, I've thought once or twice that you look a little like your characters. It's a compliment, they are so lovely.
I'm sure she is going to adore her, she is so lovely.
oh wow, that is one brave cat!
Had friends I know on the net, loose the roofs of their houses, fences blown over. On the news they were saying there are many thousands of houses in the Uk without electric or heating. One friend saw her shed fly past her window and the apartments all lost their roof and nextdoor lost theirs. So much damage
and the news says how many lost their lives but not how many are injured.
How absolutely adorable!!! A wonderful bear. I love the muzzle, your mistake, ended up being a blessing by the looks of that lovely face..
