I was amazed at the size he was when I saw the picture of him and the banana. You have done a great job-I would never have the patience.

That is great news Gemma though I am not surprised as he is a lovely looking bear

I totally agree with Kim and I always like to have at least six bears on the go which means that six heads are completed as I find that I like to know that I have that many bears at least that will turn out decent as once the head is done that to me is the difficult bit over and the rest of the bear is just a case of deciding how the rest of him should look.I then feel at ease plodding along finishing the bears until I start the new lot.As I started my last lot of six I went through a phase of 4 bear heads that ended up in the bin and I thought that I was never going to turn out a decent bear.I just stopped for a few days until I felt enthusiatic enough to try again and the next ones came out ok.If you are having a bad time and you keep trying and trying you just don't seem to be in the right frame of mind and things keep going wrong.Just take a break until you feel ready and are in the mood and then hopefully everything will turn out ok again.

I have been making bears for two years now and I think I have made around 90 bears and that doesn't count the heads that ended up in the bin because they weren't up to scratch
I think this is an interesting thread for those beginners out there that can wonder if they ever will make bears to a standard that they will be happy with because when they see just how many bears that people have made they realise that there has been a lot of time and effort going into achieving your standards.I think with any form of art it takes a lot of time and patience to achieve your goal and if you are prepared to put in the time and effort you will get there eventually.Sorry for rambling

He has turned out lovely Ann-I love his little froggie outfit and I am sure your friend will love him.If it were me I would much rather have this little creation than a frog

He is absolutely gorgeous Connie-I love everything about him and he is just perfect

Just wear something that you feel comfortable in and try to be relaxed about everything(says she who has no dress sense and would be panicking at the thought of a camera let alone a film crew )At least they can edit all the bits you don't like so that should make it a lot easier.I am sure you will get along just fine

That is a very good question Pauline.I haven't got around to doing a mailing list and was thinking about it and you have asked some interesting questions and I will be interested in the replies.I thought that if you do have a mailing list and it gets too long how much time are you going to be spending everytime you finish new bears and have to keep notifying people and as you said can you feel like a nusiance in keep sending out these e mails? If you don't send them out each time you could miss out on potential buyers and upset someone who missed out on that special bear that they would have loved to have.

He has come out great Ann-he has great character
Time to order more mohair- YIPPEE

I like my bears to have a little bit of weight with steel shot but what has influenced how much is that I have sold a lot of bears through e bay so they need to be posted and quite a few have gone overseas and I like to limit the amount of steel shot I use as it can make the postage so expensive.
If I am buying a bear I like a bit of weight but it wouldn't be the deciding factor in buying that bear as the overall appeal is more important to me.

I know what you mean Jodi about all these forums as I am a member of 3.Sorry to hear you are not well.I have had a stinker of a cold all week and I managed to finish sewing the head last night and was so looking forward to stuffing and finishing the head-but I fell asleep on the settee and he is still waiting to be finished Maybe if I stop talking and get on with my bear making I will finish him
Laurie

Make sure we see some pictures of the end result :photo:

I had a hamster years ago and we lost him!
In the end we found him-he was in the back of the settee and we had great trouble trying to coax him out.We put a bit of food down ready to grab him and he was too quick for us.In the end my dad had to undo the back of the settee so we could get him out. I hope you find him soon-he is probably hiding somewhere.

That is a great picture Aleta-please show us the front view when they are all finished

I took my two bears to my local bear shop and would have loved for them to go together as they were just suited. He sold them both within a month and I should have asked whether they went together but I didn't and now I will never know
Laurie
What a little sweetie
Laurie
Yahoo-there will be no stopping you now   .I love getting a box full of mohair in the post.I can't wait to open the box
Laurie
I write down the name of the bear, what pattern used(also any amendments to that pattern),what fur used and where I got it from.I also write down where I sold the bear and for how much and where it went to.I find this is enough otherwise you can spend more time on paperwork than you can making your bears!I am also lazy where paperwork is concerned
Laurie
I can do all the normal sewing when stressed but if I try to create a bear the face never seems to come out right if I am not in the right frame of mind.Maybe thats why the last three bears heads have gone in the bin-I must be stressed
Laurie
I just had a look at your bears Jane and they are gorgeous
.I am sure they will fly off the shelves
