I'm a Grinch......!
I fall for individual bears & critters. Some artists DO push that button in me more often,
but those same artists also do bears that leave me very 'meh'  bear_whistle

But when I love em, I really REALLY love em  bear_grin

I like stuff NOW that I didn't like a year ago. I never thought I'd like red bears! Now I
can't wait to make one.

Good gracious Gemma, nobody said anything even remotely like "never mention if you like another artist's work!".  My concern was that this was an entire topic devoted to "list your favorite people".  And as I stated above, every time I've seen a "list your favorite people" thread on any other board I've been to, it has ended with some very hurt people.  Not intentionally, but it has happened EVERY time I've ever seen it.   I think putting everybody's "list" in one place is what causes the hurt feelings... it is human nature to scroll down and see where you yourself stand.  And if you thought you were "part of the community" or "with friends" or somehow close to members of the board who then did NOT mention you, not once... well, I wouldn't care if I was or wasn't on any list in a collection of lists, but other people DO.

Chrissi, I don't know about anyone who has "left" TT, but I've met a remarkable number of people this year at shows who lurk on this board but do not post for a variety of reasons.  They come up to me with "I've seen you on Teddy Talk!", which always surprises me because I don't think I post that often!  Though hopefully that means I do not usually come across as that scary, LOL.  Sometimes they tell me why they do not post here, sometimes they don't, but it's not really any of my business and I don't like to ask.  A question for another day, perhaps.

That happens too doesn't it.  A year ago anime left me cold although I could see the talent behind them, this year though its a totally different story.

My experiences have shown me that lists are for groceries, not people.

Tough question!!! It's kind of like being asked what is your favorite song!! I know one thing, if money and space were no object I'd definitely have A LOT more bears than I do now!!!

But I have to say that the top of my list would be R. John Wright! I Loved his Pooh characters when I saw them years ago, then he came out with the loveliest Paddington, the baby bear series was darling, and the Beatrix Potter bunnies are to die for! But these Nautical bears which are pictured in my lastest Teddy magazine are my favorite of all!  bear_wub  bear_wub Nice and big with sweet realistic faces and clever costumes!

Beyond his work, I can think of many, many artists who's work I'd like to add to my collection!

This is a tough one Gemma  bear_wacko  but here's my list......

1. Whendi Meager of Whendi's Bears - makes the most fabulous tatty old looking bears with great character bear_wub

2. Paula of All Bear - BIG and cuddly and full of huggability - the bears not Paula

3. Diane of Wee Scone bears - are'nt her tubby bellied bears just to die for?

4. Marion of Acid Attic bears - just so stylish and individual - red bears rule!

5. Brenda of Thumperantiques - gorgeous gorgeous little bears and i just want one!

That's my wish list and hopefully in the new year i can actually add one or two from the list above to my collection. Having said all that, there are still so many other bears i would love to own but i just whittled it down to five.

If anyone is upset by their ommission from my wish list please don't hesitate to PM or email me and i'll be more than happy to explain my choices and apologise publicly to them here on TT.

I don't have a problem with lists, either for groceries or people - this is just about wishes surely? I wish i were tall thin and beautiful but i'm sure all short fat and ugly people would'nt mind me wishing it (the fact that i am short, fat and ugly gives me a bit of an insight here) - lighten up girls IT'S CHRISTMAS

Ok,
One of everyone's  bear_wub  I could start a Teddy Talk gallery. I'm sad to say I pretty much don't shop, not clothes, or even some basics because I'm always working and have got out of the habit. The monks and I would get along very well! THere are two pieces I'd really like to find (I go for the unusal and I'm stretching the "bear artist" to mean more than bears) -
Art Rodger's stressed out rabbit, a beautifully made piece and so different (reminds me of myself and other bear artist friends)
A piece from my favorite artist when I was starting out; Charleen Kinser's Closet Beastie and maybe one of her toads as a companion  bear_laugh

Ooh, bish bash bosh, I'm happy to share the names of those artists I've been sorely tempted by ...  I think there's no harm in giving respect to the bear makers who create extra special magic for us.

For me, Sandra Wickenden's beautiful traditional bears really hit the spot.  I dont' know if you've all heard of Sandra, but I do hope so.  She's one of our most long standing UK artists and her work is in the style of traditional German bears.  She makes 'em big and she makes 'em beautiful!  She also makes the most outstanding 'on all fours' grizzlies and I'm lucky enough to own one of those and a fabulous big classic teddy made especially for my birthday several years ago.  Sandra's output is very limited, but well worth the wait.

Diane's 'Wee Scones' tug at me too.  They are absolutely unique to Diane, once again in traditional style but cleverly distressed to look authentically aged, and so very endearing.

In terms of fabulously imaginative and detailed craftmanship, I too must pay homage to my friend Chris Pike.  She's definitely a leader, not a follower and I think her work is both exceptional and inspirational.  It's a real privilege to see her work 'up close and personal'.

There are many other artists whose work I truly admire, some well known, some less so.  Flair, creativity of interpretation and superb craftmanship are the aspects of bear craft that always catch my eye and TT is such a pleasure to browse because there are always such wonderful offerings presented here for us to share and to admire.
