Teddy Talk: Creating, Collecting, Connecting

Good morning Teddy Talkers.

Thank you to all that have contacted me about the special Teddy Talk co-op section that will be in the September/October issue of Teddy Bear & Friends.

I wanted to remind everyone else that there is still time to take advantage of this opportunity!

You have one week (until June 22) to reserve your space and two weeks (until June 29) to get materials together.

The 1/8 page ad costs $200 or $225 if we are to put the ad together for you.

It is incredibly costly to have the magazines shipped in small quantities, so it makes it prohibitive for the smaller shops to carry them.   In a few instances, we have independent distributors who will take 100 or so copies and distribute them within their country, but this is an exception and we don’t know exactly where the copies end up.   It’s unfortunate, but it’s a common problem among smaller publishers in niche markets.  Unless we have substantial volume, we and the shops lose money trying to get our magazines overseas.

We have worked on our overseas delivery and they do arrive in a reasonably timely fashion.

I have been visiting Teddy Talk for months now (although I just joined) and I have been just amazed at all of the conversations going on and friendships that have been made. I think it’s a fantastic community in which we can all join together and have lots of fun! (Mindy feels the same way; she’s going to have an article about Teddy Talk in the Sept/Oct issue.)

So when I was approached by a few of the Teddy Talk members with this idea, I wanted to jump on it because I feel that I am here not only to help with advertising but to help in building this community as well.

My thoughts on the Teddy Talk co-op page were that this would be a great opportunity for all of us once again to get together and promote ourselves and this business.

The rate card price for a 1/8 Page, Four-Color ad is $260. The rate card price for us to create an ad is an additional $30. I was able to get a more than 20% discount off of these rates for the members of Teddy Talk. I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to get their name out there.

We will take as many ads as you would like. Each page will consist of 8 ads, and the amount of pages is up to you.

Yes we will definitely work with international artists—our community stretches around the globe, so it makes sense to share the work of international artists with our readers at home, and vice versa.

I am really looking forward to helping those who would like to participate. As always your questions and comments are always welcome.

Good morning everyone! I just got through reading all your messages and I am working on a response to address all your concerns.

Hello Aleta,

Thank you for your message. Advertising is really simple, and I am here to help you through the whole process!

For starters we will have to get an insertion order taken care of. An Insertion Order is a form which outlines the issue you will run in, the ad size and rate and it will have your contact information. I will send this to you and you will need to be sign and fax or mail it back to me.

The next step is materials – don’t be scared!

My artist Jamie will do a beautiful job of creating an ad for you! I will first need a picture or a bear or whatever you would for the ad (or you may choose to not have a picture). You can email one to me (it must be hi resolution, 300 dpi or more to print clearly) or you can mail one which we can scan!

Then I will need the text you want to include. I recommend: Company Name, Contact Information (email, URL, phone number), a description of the picture, a special you are running etc.

Once we have all that we’ll put it together and send it to you for approval!

Now if you would like to create the ad yourself… Digital files preferred in pdf, jpg or tif format. The ad must be hi-resolution (300 dpi or more) and fit these dimensions 3.25” x 2.125”.
