oh!!!!  MONKEYS!!!

I'm glad you went ahead with selling 'em.  Wish I had the $$ to buy.   bear_sad  My littlest one's birthday is in a couple of weeks.  She would love this one like I love it!

Annnik

love it!!!

ask me why I love my big giant dog who can't (won't) get up near my bears!

(he'd love them to death if he knew he could really reach them!)

Annnik

CAN'T...

STAND...

THE...

WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

argh.

Annnik

Thanks cat!

She's really beginning to grow on me, with the big eyes and all... but every now and then, I'll catch her out of the corner of my eye and she's watching me...  bear_shocked

hehe... I might have to make a few big eyed bears!

Annnik

CNN ran a story about this yesterday http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/03 … index.html.
Horrible.  Nothing else to say about it but horrible.

Annnik

hehe!!!  My girls did about the same, but with GREEN... ALL OVER!!  That stuff takes awhile to get off.

But YES!  Wonderful memories!!

Annnik

CONGRATULATIONS!!

pic1.jpgI made this little girl in order to try out my new design before my mohair gets here.  bear_tongue

I didn't have any joint materials, but I just had to finish her.  So I string jointed her arms and legs with buttons on the outside.  I did joint her head, using the nut and bolt method.

This is my first 4 piece body.  I don't like it... think I'll make a 2 piece one for this design.  I maybe making a few like this until I get the design right, so a bunch of brown bears may be invading soon.

I still thought she came out cute.  She has no name yet, as I'm not sure what to do with her.

p.s. I forgot to mention that she's 8" tall, if standing... her eyes are toooo big, that's all I have right now, but I like 'em!

Annnik

Thanks guys!  I guess I'm just thinking "too many different product names"... when I don't have many repeat customers yet, I didn't want to confuse any I have by introducing too many series at a time.

But you are definitely right... I need to just make whatever my muse tells me to!!  'Cuz I got a bunch of Blanket Bears in my head, as well as Bookshelf ones... the sportsy-type ones... it's getting alittle crowded up there!!!  THEY GOTTA COME OUT!!

bear_grin

Annnik

CONGRATS!! CONGRATS!!

Annnik

Hi all!

I was wondering, how many series names do ya'll use?  I have my "Blanket Bears" which are between 10" and 18", and each comes with a blanket or quilt.  Then I have my "Bookshelf Bears" which are smaller (small enough to fit in a bookshelf... get it?   bear_grin ), but only come with worn accessories...

But I just made an Alice in Wonderland bear, and I haven't decided all the accessories, but I do want her in a "setting"...

THEN I have already in my mind what to do with my new mohair that's coming (yea!), but he's not going to really fit in the other categories... sort of a sports-type theme.

I guess my real question is, how many different series is "too much".  I feel like I've almost got my voice in my designs, but that voice is SCREAMING to go in all different directions.   bear_shocked

I use a spreadsheet when I make a bear, with all information you could possibly think to go with it.

It's name, date created, size, fabric, where I purchased the fabric, fabric cost, accessories, etc... I name and number each pattern I design and make sure I put that next to the bear I used it on.  And then at the end of the row, I have ebay #, starting bid, dates, ebay user name of winning bidder, real name, shipping address, when I shipped the bear...  I think I'm missing something here, 'cuz each row is pretty long...

But that's basically how I keep up.  With it being in a spreadsheet, I can import it into a database program if I wanted, or sort the info by any column I wished...

That's more info that you wanted.   bear_grin

I use a spreadsheet.

Annnik

I JUST order my first mohair and glass eyes!!!!!

YEA!!       bear_laugh

sorry... just had to share my happy-ness!

How fast is Intercal's shipping???

Annnik

hehe!!     thanks guys!  Just thought I'd share some fun from frustration.

I somehow lost my "tomato" pin cushion and my mother's crochet pin cushion.  So I needed one, but that's not why I made it...

That frog is the second attempt at my first commissioned piece.  (Yea!)  The first...  well, I won't tell you what happened to the first.  Let's just say that a large furry friend of mine has a new friend to "play" with.

debfabric1.jpgDeborah was so kind to send some of us some mini-fabric and I was lucky enough to win her drawing and receive extra fabrics in many different colors.

Kisses to Deb!!   bear_wub  bear_flower  bear_wub

Here's the first I want to share with ya'll, the second made from her fabrics.  (The first was a B-Day present for my middle girl.) I'm not much of a photographer yet, but this silly camera doesn't like me anyways!  She is a beautiful darker sage-y green.  LOVE IT!!

She doesn't have a name yet and I'm gonna hang on to her for awhile.  (Maybe forever!  bear_innocent )

Annnik

to all those cute little designs I've designed that didn't want to turn out right...

to all those soft, cuddly fabrics that I've bought that didn't look right on a bear, even though they should have...

to all those bears & friends that gave me a fit when I made them...

Let this be a warning to you...  THIS IS WHAT I'M GONNA START DOING WITH YOU!!!  (those rascally little pains!!)

bear_grin

hee-hee!!

Annnik

Oh how sweet!!

Can't wait to see more "Deb" bears... including my own.  bear_grin

Denise, Love her!   bear_wub

Annnik

I've been making bears 2 1/2, almost 3 years.  I've used fabric, felt, plush-like material... I'm in love with this furry-felt I've found (and bought A LOT in 3 different colors)... I've basically used anything I can get my hands on.   bear_grin

Question #1... when did ya'll buy your first mohair?  Did you jump right in or did you wait until you were comfortable?  I've been waiting until I'm comfortable with my own patterns.  And now that I *do* feel ready, I ain't got the money!!   bear_shocked   (My lovely boyfriend says he *might* buy me some for our 4th anniversary, which is on the 14th of this month... YEA!!)

Question #2...  I've tried to soak in every inch of this forum the past few weeks, (I've been a member around 7 months, but just now really starting to get envolved) and I have a question about pricing.  There's one topic about selling ourselves short, but I don't feel ready to start asking for a higher amount yet.  Especially since I haven't used mohair yet.  The mohair pricing, as I understand it, should be priced around $15 per inch... but I'm using a lot of felt. (LOVE IT!!)  I feel sorta cheap asking $15 to $25 for my bears, but gosh!!!  They aren't mohair!   bear_shocked   But then again, I am spending alot of time on each of my little fellers, so maybe I am selling myself short.  Don't know.

What's a good pricing scale for NON-mohair bears??

Annnik

Richy, thankyouverymuch!!!   The picture pulls all the other posts together.  And all the other tips are more helpful.   bear_original

Annnik

OH!!  That it the cutest bear!!  Your friend will LOVE it.   bear_thumb

Annnik

I checked out that book on amazon... it sounds great!!  I want it whether or not I do this myself.   bear_grin

But I'd be scared to do it myself, I haven't worked with mohair, YET... and the bear seems so fragile.

Annnik

Hi Shelli, I would love to see the difference in the two joints.  I realize this is an older post, but I seem to only know one way to do this.  Can you repost the pictures?  Or is it just my silly browser showing "Seller's Image No Longer Online"?

Thanks!!

Annnik

Natasha!!  She's beautiful!!

Love her, love her, LOVE HER!!

As I have recently found out, mistakes can be such fun!!

Annnik

My mother and I were talking about getting my father's teddy bear restored for his Birthday in August (#78!!) and was wondering if ya'll could point me in the right direction of a "restorer".  We think it's going to be too expensive, but thought we'd look into it.

He may be too far gone to fix up "right", especially since he's missing a leg.   bear_shocked

Here's a pic of him just for giggles!!  The card that is falling apart was written by my grandmother and says that my father's grandmother bought him this bear in 1929!

We have no idea the maker or anything else about him, but he is mohair.

NO, that's not a mostache... that used to be his smile, it's just flying out to the sides now.   bear_grin
