Does anyone have any experience needlefelting Alpaca fiber?

I have a ton of these fleeces, beautiful and washed and silky, and it just occurred to me that I don't even know   if they're good for needlefelting.

So somebody tell me that they are.

oz2copy.JPGcasey.JPGYes Eileen I have used Alpaca, and it works well.  Here is an example

The lady I buy my fleece off looks after me well, she has washed the second lot extra for me and it felts up like a dream. And its so soft.

Karen??? is that a cross eyed wombat next to the wabbit???? bear_grin

I also find it very soft. I use my wee stash of alpaca when I want the surface to be hairy. But that is just the fibre I have though.  and as Karen said.... it IS silky soft...I love touching it....

I have used Alpaca a few times
I thought it beautiful to handle , but harder to get to felt as it was so soft
there were a lot of long coarse hair that would straggle , I just trimmed them after
but persevere , it will do it
and because you have to work at it to felt it , it is very firm

the bear on the left is Alpaca and the green on the body of the other bear

cant remember if this is Alpaca or Yak ?

If you have a lot of it  you could use it as core and then felt wool over the top

Have found Alpaca too soft for most feltings, tends to have a memory. Works better for me as an accent rather than the dominant part of the Felting.
