First off I owe you a recap of my trip to New York City and FAO Schwarz were, with Laura Lynn, I attended the unveiling and signing of the Tonner Doll Co.'s Mimzy bunny. The owner of the doll company, Robert Tonner was there with many of his staff. And movie director, Bob Shaye was there along with cast members Timothy Hutton, Joley Richardson, Chris O'Neil (Noah) and Rhiannon Wryn (Emma). Other staff members from New Line Cinema were there also. It was so much fun to finally meet so many at New Line and Tonner that I've emailed with or talked to on the phone. It was fun to see the Tonner version of Mimzy in the fur and it was especially wonderful to meet Rhiannon Wryn who played the little girl who found Mimzy in the movie. She's a sweetheart and her family is wonderful.
I wasn't there to sign autographs but ended up signing a few Mimzies anyway! It was quite flattering. Of course, no one would have known I'd made Mimzy for the movie if it hadn't been for Laura. She told any and everyone who would listen! Embarrassing? At first but we laughed about it and it did indeed feel good to finally be publically recognized for my efforts (aside of you all here of course!) and I love Laura for her enthusiasm and encouragement.
Robert Tonner and I had a lovely chat. He's interested in my doing a collaboration with them in the future.
I shared my photo album of bears I've made with many including the manager of the Steiff shop inside FAO. He encouraged me to contact their corproate office about submitting my work. So it was well worth the trip in many ways!

Second - a TV reporter is coming to interview me next week for a documentary on my involvement with Mimzy as well as my work making bears, show promoting, etc. I'm so nervous! I'm going to be a blubbering idiot! Seriously! I have little problem typing my thoughts (aside from the typos!) but to have to speak them ..... and to a camera man, reporter and God knows who else....... UGH!!! But I'll do my best as I want to put forth a very positive image of bear artists, what we do, etc. All part of the challenge I presented you all with a while back... to build awareness of artist bears. Can't say I'm not doing my part! :P
Do check out the link above for photos and to buy your own autographed Mimzy. By the way, I've been keeping an eye on eBay for Mimzy stuff. I can't believe what people are asking for autographed 'stuff' of Mimzy! I won't be charging THAT much! My signature isn't worth it.....
Thanks again to all of you for sharing this adventure with me. Some of you have been through it since the beginning... thanks for still being here!
Daph, you're a rock star! I'm so proud of, and excited for, you! What an incredible journey this whole thing has been for you. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your involvement here so that we could all be a part of your wonderful, wild ride.

Wow! You must be on cloud 9!! How fun this must have been
Congratulations
Yes it's very exciting , the movie looks geat it opens here today. We are hoping to go!!
You look great in the photos!!!
Oh, I hope you all will post your honest review of the movie after you've seen it. Remember.... I'm the one who thinks Mimzy is UGLY and I was very sceptical about the movie story after reading the script last year! It will be interesting to hear what you all think.
I'm going to see it AGAIN this weekend..... this time I'll pay more attention to the movie itself and not just wait for Mimzy sightings!
yay! that is sooo cool! now i am totally nervous to meet such a superstar at the new england teddy show...
Daphne - thanks so much for sharing your trip to NY and FAO with us. What fun and how exciting! And you're so nice to put up the photo of Laura and Cappuccino . . . thank you - I appreciate it! Wow - this has really opened some doors for you and I hope you have a ton of wonderful opportunities as a result. You Go, Girl!
Oh yes . . . one of the movie critics in the Dallas Morning News liked The Last Mimzy very well. Gave it a B+ rating. I'm going to see it SOON!
Wow Daphne, I'm so happy for you. I have no idea when (if?) the movie will come to Europe, but I'll be on the lookout. If all else fails I suppose I can get the DVD next year or so.
Hugs
That is sooooooooooooo cool, wonderful for you
Congrats again!!!
Someone on TV I think it was extra or entertainment tonight gave it a thumbs up! Thank you for showing us your trip, You must be on cloud nine!!!!!!!! I had tears in my eyes when I saw the Pictures with a big smile on my face.
How exciting for you Daphne, and it must have been so much fun. I am sure you and Laura Lynn had a great time and it doesn't look like you guys got into to much trouble . I can't wait to see the movie either , I"m hoping we can go on Monday ( wouldn't it be cool if it was number 1 at the box office) I've heard nothing but good reviews about the movie.
OH I think I'll have to order a Daphne autographed Mimzy as well woooohoooo, then I can show it off to everyone and I will be able to Name Drop , oh I know the lady who designed Mimzy (darn now I wish we had our picture taken with you Daphne at Schaumburg last yr ) I'll have to get one in Nobember when I see you.
I'm really excited for you and so happy , this has to be an amazing experience for sure.
Big hugs
Shane
TWO THUMBS UP!!! WAAAAAY UP for The Last Mimzy!!!!!!
Oh Dapne, to be associated with this wonderful project! I'm telling EVERYONE to go! Fortunately the kids in this area have Spring Beak next week & I get to see it again w/our 8 yo Grandie, who has recently added a science/alien element to his complex Lego designs.
I can't speak more highly of a good, interesting, suspense-filled movie! It was best in that I had no way to know how it'd conclude or to see the ending coming - other than being sure it'd have a Happy Ending.
Did you have a script or have anything about the story line as you designed away ??
And - this is called "Burying The Lead" - why didn't you say there was Needle Felting involved????? The Best touch for me!! In one close up there's one single fiber across Mimzy's left eye - I wanted to trim that off in the worst way!
So - nothing from me about the story, but I cannot imagine ANY list member and others NOT enjoying this movie!! We saw it in one of the early (Senior!!) time slots at 2 PM. and just returned.
It didn't hurt that 'Emma' also resembles our GDau at 5, the one I showed pix of last year when TV's 'Invasion' was running: Ariel Gade.
GO!! GO!! GO!!! GO to this movie!!
That is wonderful Daphne - way to go Girl!
You must be feeling so proud of yourself - Big Congratulations!
Hugs
Carolyn
Bobbie,
I'm so glad you liked it! I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the needlefelting. It was in a post during the making of Mimzy last year. In fact, I could be wrong, but I think it was Sonya who suggested it. They didn't want inset fabric, didn't like the air brushing idea and I was at a loss! There were a few times I wanted to reach up to the screen and 'fix' Mimzy during the movie. I didn't get a script until I was done making the Mimzies. I was given a detailed synopsis when I started but that was all.
Shane..... have your camera ready! :photo:
Thank you Daphne!!!!! Oh I've been chomping on the bit to share those pictures But I really wanted YOU to do it. I know you hit the ground running after landing back in New Hampshire Monday night... well... Tuesday morning actually
.
We DID have such a great time! It was fast... really fast... Daphne's plane was 2 1/2 hours late, and we ended up waiting in line at FAO Schwarz for an hour to meet everyone too. Then, Daphne humored me with some Steiff watching , looked around a little more and then realized we were both STARVING! After dinner, hopped in a cab, out and back into another (the first guy didn't want to go to the airport!!) just in time for my flight... but in plenty of time for Daphne's (just don't GO there!)
And it was ALL totally worth it!!!!!
