Picpus Cemetery, Paris -- this is where many of the guillotined commoners  from the French Revolution were buried.  Marquis de Lafayette is buried there also, (His wife wanted to be buried there because her sister was guillotined and was buried there.  Lafayette wanted to be buried with his wife.)  and there is an American flag at his grave.  He is both a French and an American hero, and there is a special ceremony for him every 4th of July that the American ambassador, among others, attends.

Barcelona -- was also beautiful!  Sophie and I were on our own most of the time because husband was at a conference.  We took the Barcelona tour bus which stopped all over town and you could get on and off as you wished.  A 2-day ticket was a good deal an extra day for 4 euros.  The architecture in Barcelona is beautiful, lots of moderisme architecture, and it was the home of Antonio Gaudi.  There is also a museum that includes models of his work and shows how he used geometry (especially catenary arches) to design his buildings.

Gaudi's home (designed under his supervision by colleague, Francesc Berenguer)  Gaudi lived there for 20 years.  It is now a museum.
Roof of Casa Batllo - amazing house by Gaudi.  There are no straight lines in whole building and beautiful handcrafted work -- carved wood, mosaics, ceramic tile, stained glass, carved plasterwork, etc. (This one is really out of order.  It's not in Park Guell, but I keep trying to edit, and it keeps turning up here.  bear_wacko )

Another view of Gaudi's home with one of his fantastic mosaic benches in front.
