Here are a few pictures from our recent trip to Whitby on the north east coast of England. I love Yorkshire and expecially this area which includes wonderful walks and beautiful scenery..

Whitby is famous for Bram Stokers' Dracula and he's very much in evidence in the townalong with fantastic fish and chips...thank goodness for the walks!!!

Absolutely beautiful! My lifetime dream is to visit England and will add this spot to my mental agenda.I spent so much time as a child with my paternal grandmother who was born in Hazelmere. She told me stories of her childhood and she went back for many visits in later years. It seems that there is always some reason that I can't travel-family(first it was the children, now it's the sick parents) work schedules, money etc-so I love it when everyone sends in their pictures. Thanks for sharing Jenny! Sincerely Jane D.

Whitby is my home from home. A lovely little town that never seems to change.

We go back up there for the next gothic weekend at the end of October. I can't wait!!

I am glad you like the pics....Whitby is stuck in a time warp...but is just so refreshingly unspoilt that it doesn't matter

Laurie, In the picture showing the view of the moors ..this bit is what known as the 'Hole of Horcum' which is basically a vast crater...you can see the purple heather off in the distance...it was spectacular..I just wish we'd had longer there..!

I forgot to mention Jenny that we walked our 2 dogs at the Hole of Horcum and our Dobermans collar snapped right near the fence where the road is and we had to quickly grab him and we ended up buying him a new red collar in Whitby the same day.

What gorgeous pictures Jenny and lovely to see - so totally different from anything here in Australia.  I think your Captain Cook who discovered Australia came from Whitby didn't he?

Christine...yes, he came from a small village about 6 miles from Whitby called Staithes...it's very tiny and is built on a steep hill. We didn't go there because we'd done steep hills to death and my calf muscles were feeling a bit fragile...LOL

I'm so glad you enjoyed Whitby.  Its only one hours drive from where I live in York so I am lucky enough to be able to pop over for a day out quite regularly with the children.  bear_grin  Did you like all the shops selling the beautiful Whitby jet stone?

Beautiful pictures, thanks Jenny

Hi Ali....I think the Whitby jet is great...yet I have never bought a piece despite going there fairly often. I like the little retro shop that does all the 1940s and 50s stuff..I could mooch around those type of shops all day long. I keep meaning to go to the jet museum but have never been..it's never rained for long enough to tempt me indoors...LOL
We love York...you are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place...

I have always wanted to visit Whitby but El Tel never wants to travel around the UK on his hols (even for a short break), vampires, shipwrecks and fish and chips - what could be better!
I am truly envious

El Tel rarely drinks since he became a fitness fanatic Jen, i simply cannot tell you how much that hurts me - ME a confirmed party animal....he would rather cycle through the bloody Alps than get drunk ( i have seen the holiday brochures and believe me it's scary)...see what i have to put up with?

mmmm beer, vampires, shipwrecks AND chish and fips........what more could anyone want?  bear_tongue
Penny
P.S. that dog, did it have a Gucci collar and look just a teeesnyweensy bit like Nigella Lawson?  bear_whistle
