Harry.jpgHi All,
I recieved the most touching PM from a new artist a little bit ago.
I know that this has been done all ready, but it got me thinking how fun it would be to share our Very First Bears with TT.  Especially for the new artists so that they can see where we started from.
I am including my Very First in this message.  His name is Harry & I have kept him all of these past 13 years purely for Good Luck.  He looks a bit like a Schnauzer & I did such a horrible job tightening up his joints that I had to wind string around them to keep them from being completely wobbly. I learned at that point that using lock pliars & lock nuts are a must for jointing.
I look forward to seeing all of your "Firsts".
Thanks Big Bunches.
Big Hugs,
Denise

I'm so bummed that no one has jumped on this thread. Please, please, please submit pics of your first bears. I know I would love to see them & I think it would be great for all the new artists out there to see where we started from.
Thank you & I'm so excited to see all of your "Firsts".
Big Hugs,
Denise

005.jpgHi  bear_original , maybe we're all just a bit shy!

Ambrose was one of the first bears I made and possibly the first I ever put on eBay....to my delight he sold, and the new owner wrote to say how happy they were. It spurred me on to make more bears and was a lovely introduction to the bear community.

As you can see, Ambrose was a chunky chap. His legs and arms were a bit on the large side, and his legs did tend to splay out when standing..... But I think that made him all the more endearing and his heart was definitely in the right place. Oh, and he loved to lie on his back and have his tummy tickled!!

Sigh..... OK, OK..... I think I've avoided posting in these discussions before or at least not sharing a photo of a bear from this far back..... so here goes:

maplebluesm.jpg

This is Maple Sugar..... first bear I made all by myself. He's from a Jennifer Laing pattern. He's the second bear I ever made. The first one was done together with a very experienced bear artist using one of her patterns and some gorgeous Schulte mohair.... he came out great but I had a lot of guidance so he doesn't count!

Sure, I'll play! I just came across this shot last Monday.
Anyone here remember S.M.A.L.L.'s first AZ Tea Party in 1990? I was so bad I couldn't finish this cactus bloom head, but my DS rescued it from the bin.
I put all 5/8" of it next to the 3" Needled Polar Bear head for the article last summer... They're still here on my desk - to keep me humble!

It's always fun to see our "firsts", Denise.  Kind of embarassing though.  Here's mine.  I made him in 1986 out of cheap synthetic.  I'd never heard of mohair at that time.  Quite a fat funny looking fellow.

Here's mine, Denise...I call him Cowlick...his fur goes EVERYWHERE.  He was my first design and a piece of mohair that I didn't quite know what to do with.   I had not intentions of ever selling bears at the time.  I just wanted to see if I could make them...little did I know.

Please excuse if this is large & red. I've forever been trying to figure out how to do this & I finally had a brain storm. If it is large & red then this means my brainstorm worked  bear_ermm
