Just look at this precious baby girl, not that I really love primates or anything..hmm hmm!
Conchita is a white-naped mangabey monkey, who currently resides at London Zoo. She’s only the second white-naped mangabey to be born in the UK. The tiny primate keeps hold of her teddy bear companion while her mother recovers from a caesarean. But it's not all down to the teddy, as this mini-monkey is also being looked after by keeper. Mangabeys can grow up to 90 cm long and females can weigh up to about 6kg.
The species, which are native to West Africa and live in the tropical forests they are on the critically endangered list following loss of habitat. The white-naped mangabey is restricted to a small region between the Nzo-Sassandra river system in Côte d'Ivoire and the Volta River in Ghana.
This teeny-tiny, big-eyed, big-eared, pink-tongued furball is only the second mangabey ever born in the UK. Isn't it sad that the species are so seriously endangered in the wild!
Zookeepers are hoping to reintroduce the Conchita to her family and the other mangabeys in London Zoo's Gorilla Kingdom within a month, (I'm planning my next visit) but for now, here are some wonderful pictures of her sucking her thumb, snuggling with her teddy bear and staring into our souls with those deep, dark eyes.
