No-one with a heart could fail to be saddened by the loss of life in Pakistan with the floods. It is heart-breaking to read about such devastation.
I have now heard from WSPA that their bear sanctuary in Pakistan was in the middle of the flood plain and that 20 bears lost their lives. Miraculously, three bears have been rescued. Having seen WSPA's work with bears first hand, I am completely devastated by this news. These poor animals went through so much in their lives, and then were rescued to a place of safely - what a cruel twist of fate that they should then lose their lives to a natural disaster. Very, very sad.
It has taken me a while to reply to this devastating news Dawn and I still really don't know what to say. A horrible feeling went over my whole body when I read your news and my brain feels a bit numb, and as you say, it is such a terrible and cruel twist of fate. What an incredible loss to the bear world and to the WSPA after all their immense work and effort to rescue and take care of these gorgeous creatures in the first place.
Nature can be very cruel . We should however be thankful that these super creatures were able to escape the tortures inflicted on them for most of their lives and that they were able to eventually enjoy some freedom and a more loving and natural existence thanks to the extreme efforts of wonderful souls from WSPA. Hopefully, lessons may be learned from this dreadful ordeal now that they know the area is under such flood threats. But nothing will ever take away the hurt we will all feel from this sad outcome.
I can understand how you must be feeling Dawn, we are all extremely sad with you.

With the human death toll now at least 1100, and probably higher, our hearts go out to everyone in Pakistan (and Russia, and China... It's kind of an overwhelming time worldwide).

Natural disasters at their ugliest.
That is so so sad.
All the reports from natural disasters around the world are devastating right now, thinking of all affected, especially those, such as animals, who had no way to escape
Such sad, sad news Dawn....
My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones &, as Katy says, the poor animals that had no way of escape....
God Bless them all.... x
