Here's a bit of useless information for you!
"There are more than 700 species of Eucalyptus, mostly native to Australia, with a very small number found in adjacent parts of New Guinea and Indonesia.
Eucalypts can be found in almost every part of the continent, adapted to all of Australia's climatic conditions; in fact, no other continent is so characterised by a single genus of tree as Australia is by eucalyptus.
Many are known as gum trees, hence the seeds are called gumnuts."
These are Gum Leaves
These are Gum Flowers...which turn into Gumnuts!

Sandi
Wow !!! Gumnuts Kool! I would have never known what that is - or maybe never have seen one. The interesting things you learn TT. how cool is that.
hugs kassie
Hi Renae and Kassie,
Koalas do eat the eucalypt leaves...and get high on them that's why they sleep all the time!
The flowers don't really have a smell...not like roses and such. But the red gum flowers (which are the ones I love the best) are beautiful in full bloom...and there are so many shades of red, right through from deep orange, through to bright crimson and deep cerise.
Wallabies and roos love this sort of country...
...we have many roos on our 53 acres and echidnas. This is where we will build our new house in four years...and where I'll have my studio.
If you want me to post more pics just let me know.
You're both country girls aren't you?
Big hugs,
Sandi
Hi Sandi & Renae,
Yup me too - country girl. Were I came from, we call it "The bush". You may know that temp Sandi. I have heard some of my Australian friends call it that too. I am from Canada. I lived in the Yukon in the North West Territories, I even went to the north Pole. For many years I also traveled in all the northern parts of Alberta, British Columbia were I lived in tents and spent many, months wandering around. Sometimes on horse back, sometimes in boats and sometimes on 4 wheelers, depending on were I was going. Well, I have settled down now, but I do miss it a lot.
Your home is beauitful. I love the trees. That would so nice for horseback riding. I have always dreamed about going to Australia and Africa, thoses are two countries I would love to see -someday maybe I will do that. I would also love to see more pictures. Your new home sounds like it going to wonderful. thank you for sharing your home Sandi.

must be nice.
Yep, a country girl right down to my shit kickers.
Renae - you are just too funny. Well, I still have my boots - don't go out anyway with out them - I have my barn cowboy boots and my dancing cowboy boots. You handy girl you!!! Well, you better get over here and help me with - fence mending - stall cleaning - chicken coop fixing and anything else I can find that needs done.
with that laugh I am going outside to do just that.
hugs you too and thanks for sharing.

Kassie and Renae:
I don't think I'd like to ride on the block, it's very rocky and there's lots of rabbit holes...they're everywhere...gone down a few myself from time to time when I wasn't looking where I was going.
Haven't actually seen a wombat, but I'm sure they're here from the holes we've seen. We do have the little glider possums and lots of native birds. We have had the land declared "Land for Wildlife" to try and protect the roos from being shot by the locals...some of the farmers here abouts don't like them very much! Makes me
Goannas we have, and oh yes plenty of snakes!!!
This is our little stream we have most of the time...except when there's a drought.
I'll see if I can find some with people in so it gives you an idea of the size.

Sandi
Renae you just  me up.
Have you seen those longhorns in Stayton? They are coming through here any second now!
Well - hon I know how that is about fence mending - that is why a married a strong America cowboy. I got tired of doing all that work myself.
I've always wanted to go to Australia and Africa too, when do we leave?
Let me get the wagon hitched and I will be right over. Maybe we can get a few of those longhorns on the way by. I can see the headlines now - "Middle aged women - wagon riding - cattle rustlers hit Stayton" Yeehaw! ok my silliness is getting way out of hand - time to go check on my mare girl.
hugs sweety
Sandi - Holes - horses - you are right that does not mix., but it is a beautiful place. Rocks are not a big deal. There must be places to ride there - yes?
rabbit holes...they're everywhere...gone down a few myself from time to time when I wasn't looking where I was going.
do you mean you fell into it - I mean like fell into or stepped into. I was thinking when I read that - those are pretty big rabbits - "Alice in Wonderland has nothing on you”
the stream is gorgeous. Thanks for share Sandi
hugs kassie
Kassie:
Yes there are places to ride...in the cow paddocks next door OR down the dirt road 6 kilometers to see my Mum!
The rabbit holes are
and they tunnel underground for miles (stretching the truth a bit there) but some times you'll be walking along and the earth gives way beneath you. Pesky little things Wabbits!! It's not hard to loose your leg up to the knee.
Renae:
You two should wait till we build...we'll have a guest room or two...then you can come and stay (leave the hubbies at home, you'll have a ball!) Do either of you have an Atlas? If you do look up Beechworth, Victoria...it has the BEST BAKERY!
Sandi
Sandi, I love Beechworth, and I know that yummy Bakery too.
Is that where your property is?
Yes Karen, we're about six kilometers out off the Wangaratta to Beechworth Road.
No neighbours insight...nine acres cleared, the rest all natural bushland that you can walk through. We also have our very own cave...and no I'm not married to a caveman!
I love Beechworth, it's so close to the snowfields, all the wineries and the gourmet trail, not far from Stanley for the apples and berry picking, half an hour to Albury to do all the major shopping...what more could you ask for?
There's only one trouble with the Bakery...it makes you FAT or should I say FATTER?
Well I'm off to bed early tonight...these sessions are beginning to catch up with me.

Sandi
Sandi, I'm not highjacking your post, just giving some info to Renae. She cant seem to get enough of Australiana.
Kitty these are the plants I told you about. The ones I put in my garden.
This is just a sample of the plants. The garden is still young. The idea was to make a small grotto surrounded by plants and teeming with birds. Give it another 4years and it will be a haven for both myself and the wild life.
I have put down bark through out the garden for the lizards to hide. Plus the snails like to call it home. This gives the lizards their very own larder.
Wendy
What a lovely place Sandi, I am envious. Good luck with your future plans.
YOu would love here in the West Kitty. Huge Karri forests. Lime stone caves that go for miles that you can trek.
The rangers give you a hard hat with a torch and tell you to go for it.
Its only fun if you dont mind creepy crawlies. The millipedes over here are in plague proportions. (grewsome)
I dont mind creepy crawlies . I just ignore them.
Wendy
Hi Matilda,
Pemberton and Cape Leewin are very pretty spots indeed.
What I love most in the West, are the beaches around Albany. You can walk along Cheynes beach for forty odd miles and not see a soul ... heavenly
But, then I know there are just as many beautiful places in USA. I have seen many pictures of the Teton Range in Wyoming and that looks magnificent, particularly in the spring with all the wildflowers.
Maybe we'll get some :photo: :photo: :photo: from Renae and Kassie.
Now that would be nice!

Sandi
