I have a semi-pro digital camera which has full white balance flexibility so i can set auto or many various settings however even at auto or around 4-4500k i'm still not overly impressed with the colours under fluorescent light of our bears. Have anyone any other ideas...would anyone recommend a FLW filter?has anyone tried one of these out? i do use a white-card to get a reading but still not really impressed???the true colour of the bears is not really there.I would be grateful for any help.

Does your camera have the facility to take a light balance reading from the subject you are shooting?
If it does you should take a reading from it beforehand...this way the camera can tweak the settings to fit your lighting.
It may be more about the lighting though and what lamps you use...also whether you are metering the light falling on the bear...try your spot meter mode..and depending on the colour of the bear, the background and the contrast from one to the other, try over-exposing your photographs a bit. You can do this by pressing the exposure compensation button ( often marked with a x/-) and that will add , say a half or a full fstop which will give you more light. You should be able to set a bracketing mode which will automatically will take several photos at different apertures giving you a variety of photos all the same but taken at different levels of exposure. You can also set this type of bracketing for your white balance for some cameras.

With great interest I read everything Jenny said and this is what my brain registered...

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH   bear_wacko   bear_wacko   bear_wacko

Now if Jenny would fly here (or I would fly there) and she showed me what the heck all that meant...poof...I'd get it!!

The question was for my hubby as it is his camera so I can just about understand it.He goes on about his camera as much as I go on about my bears so I am slowly starting to understand.I leave him to photograph the bears as I am too lazy to do it myself and then I nag at him when he doesn't get it right.

Shantell the trouble with automatic cameras is that in my experience the automatic bit is only any good if you are in natural light with a nice even colour range...but teddies are really quite hard to photograph.
I have spent all flippin' day trying to get a nice picture of a Christmas bear  (aaaagh Christmas already) so I can talk a good game but it's not always that easy!!
