Hi everyone.  I said I would post before and after photos of a tiger...well, I had some of my last tiger but forgot  to download and accidentally deleted them bear_sad .

Anyway.... I now have new before and after photos of my latest tiger, SHERCON (my daughter named him after the tiger from Jungle Book).

The tiger is 18" tall made from entirely WHITE mohair.  I feels weird while sewing up this big 'kitty' all by hand.  This type of mohair needs to be sewn by hand or it slips all over the place.

Here he is before his several coats of paint:  NAKED TIGER bear_shocked

....and here is is AFTER being airbrushed: bear_original

I just found out from TBCI that they are doing an article on these exact photos. bear_thumb  They'll be in the September issue.

I think tigers in and of themselves are works of art by God.  I think He must have been feeling especially artistic the day he created tigers. bear_innocent

Thanks guys!
Yes, I want to do a white tiger...but I just love adding all the layers of color...it's fun to see them evolve.  I'm itching to do a snow leopard and I have a new lion partially completed.

I love big cats. bear_wub

bear_original Amazing, Judi--what a treat to see him in his Birthday Suit! Looking at Shercon reminded me of Blake's poem. It's one of the 'Songs of Experience', companion to 'The Lamb' in 'Songs of Innocence'. It's supposed to represent a 'fallen' human point of view, but I think it captures the tiger's beauty and mystery and general awesomeness:

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies          5
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?   10
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp   15
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?   20

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

So, I've only looked at your tigers a hundred times but never paid enough attention to his toes. When he's naked I see them more. Anyway, are they needlefelted??

Regardless, how cool to see before & after photos!!!

Wow Judi,  this was Grrrrrreat!  The poor hubster kept flipping back and forth between the piccys....when he analyzes, he analyzes.....

He thinks your tiger deserved every accolade and $ it earned!

Now that's ART!

bear_shocked Wow!!!!  Your airbrushing is absolutely stunning Judi  bear_wub   Getting to see the before and after photos really brings it home how much work goes into getting that gorgeous, gorgeous coat!

Do you have to cover the nose or the paws when airbrushing to prevent 'splatter'???  I know nothing about airbrushing, so I'm curious  bear_happy  Maybe this will be good incentive for me to finally jump into airbrushing  bear_happy  LOL...although my attempts won't look this nice  bear_whistle

Thanks Daphne bear_original   Yes, the toes are needlefelted on the tops/whites and as you could figure out, also the black parts.  I had a devil of a time on my very first Tiger.  I had no idea how his toes woudl turn out.  They took me much longer to do than his airbrushing. bear_wacko  bear_thumb

Wow!  Thank you very much  everyone!  What a great comments to read this moring bear_original  bear_original  bear_original

Deb, I don't use any masks when airbushing on bears or tigers.  I use a very fine mist/spray of paint.  With a acommercial airbrush I can turn the paint flow down so fine I can paint very small dots....like on his cheeks.  It is all done freehand.  It is so much fun..it's like the icing on the cake. bear_original
