Gidday Dilu, I'm back........ I found this site

www.geocities.com/vienna/4279/
and they said that Chopin died at the age of 39  with tuberculosis.
Is that what phthisic is???

phthi·sis  (thss, t-) also phthis·ic (tzk, thz-)
n.
1. A disease characterized by the wasting away or atrophy of the body or a part of the body.
2. Tuberculosis of the lungs. No longer in scientific use.

I'm probably butting my nose in here but I felt like I had REALLY bad lisp trying to say that word outloud and got really curious as to whether you were making it up so had to go look!

Ha...

I'm still diggin' the word "conundrum"...  I'm afraid if I try to say THAT word in the heading I'll either spit all over or bite my tongue.

Not as good as laughing your gluteus minimis off though.....Although saying Phthisic with crackers in your mouth does paint a wonderfully amusing mind picture.  Thanks Daphne!

Daph!!!

I am shocked....(not)....that you didn't believe me?  Phthisic  sounds like tizik, yep that was common usage as I was growing up, along with conumdrum and all the other odd or obsolete words I use.

Words and sewing were about all I had in common with Mom.

Matilda,

ain't it a shame he died so young?  He was a fab pianist ( I have read,) and great friends with Lizt.

Which I always find interesting.  Lizt wrote piano music that the average pianist would need three hands for-I think his hands must have been absolutely humongous.  And Chopin wasn't all that big at all.

My husband just got me a wonderful new CD-  A Chinese pianist,

LangLang

Any of you know him?  Unbelievable, he made me giggle witgh sheer joy through the Lizt because it was so fantabulous, and weep during some of the other pieces....the Chopin was pure poetry.

If you are into pianists, try him out....

I put the Lizt on and cook in the kitchen and I'm dancing around and chopping and crying and the hubs thinks its the onions, or cleaning and laughing and he wonders how he can get me to do the garage.....ha! Like that'll happen in this lifetime.   Ahh words and music......
