Hello,
I was just going through some of my photos on this ol' computer and came across some pictures that I took at a little pond here in Odessa TX, we call it the "Buffalo Wallo". I guess in the pioneer days the buffalo would travel for miles to this spot for a drink of water. Anyways.... The city has turned it into a little park. On September 11 of each year they place 3000 flags all around the pond in remembrance of each person who lost their lives that day. Last year I was there I took some pictures on a beautiful Saturday morning. I believe that when they take the flags down, they are then sold and profits go to a charity.
This file is a slide show. All you have to do is open it and either click to run or save. There are a few pictures it take a minute or so to load.

Thank you Roxanne,

September 11 is truly a day to remember that this is all one country, one family, and when one part of the family hurts the whole family suffers.

Hi Roxanne, ohhhhhhhhh thanks for posting the pics. I'm usually in Odessa this time of year but my parents are flying here next weekend.  It really reminds you of the poor families that lost loved ones!
Makes me home sick!

doodlebears Celebration Ambassador

Hi Roxanne, I agree that September 11th should NEVER be forgotten. This was a day I will never forget. September 11th is my birthday and that particular year the day had started in a big rush and I had no time to open cards or gifts as I would normally do in the morning. By the time I got home my kids were in tears and showed me the horror story on the TV. After seeing all the sadness that was unfolding before my eyes there was no way I could celebrate my birthday. I finally, for my kids sake, opened my gifts, late at night, and the birthday cards which always go up around the lounge on display were tucked back in their envelopes.
One Day nobody should forget. Below is a poem for 9-11

Lady Liberty Cried

Another bright September day
Another sun-filled sky
She stands her ground with endless pride
As planes above her fly
She looks upon her children
Her loved ones dear to heart
As they go through their normal chores
Some only just to start

But soon the peace was shattered
As men so filled with hate
Soon turned their rage to senseless acts
To meet their horrid fate

First one and then another hit
Impossible to seem
Two other impacts hit elsewhere
As in a horrid dream

Tho some did fight the evil
As heroes they had died
And as the proud twins met their fall
The Lady Liberty cried

bear_original Sue Ann, what a beautiful bear! bear_wub

I've spent the day watching CNN's original Sept 11 coverage and some of the memorial services. I remember being in shock most of that day, but it all came back.

A year after the attack I visited NY and walked around the vast Ground Zero perimeter, then north along the blocks where people had fled. There were still dozens of hand-made memorials and posters along the streets.

September 11th was indeed a terrible day...  My heart goes out to anyone affected at all by those events!  I thank god daily that my hubby did not take a job working in one of the Twin Towers  because we would never have met.  I thank god that my cousins alarm clock did not go off that morning.  She was in a hotel room 1 block away when it happend.  Had the alarm gone off she would have been in one of those towers at a meeting that morning..
