This evening I went to log in to my e bay account and found that my password had been changed.ahhhhhhhhh I really panicked. I contacted e bay and luckily they could put a stop to it before it had gone too far. These scammers had yesterday ,sent me an e mail asking for postage costs to New York.I did think it was a little funny because i always give postage on my listings, but anyway i clicked on the listing number to see which bear they were talking about and up popped the usual box to enter your user name and password that you have to fill in before you can answer a question. I did this, then answered their question. That was enough for them to get my password.(scarry). Anyway today they had started listing things on my e bay account for "buy it now" prices and had set up a fake e mail address in my name for paypal. So they get payed for goods they hav`nt got and I get the bad feedback. GREAT HEY!!!!!
Just a warning to you all to never answer anything from anyone direct from your e mail box, only ever answer questions through your " my e bay " account.
Perhaps I was a bit stupid, but i thought i had seen all the scams going.
I hope by reading this it might stop someone else from all the hassle i have had.
  to you all , love chloe.xx

EEEEEEEKKK - Chloe - sorry that happened to you, but I'm glad it didn't get too far.  When you think you've seen them all, up pops another one . . . just like computer viruses.

Thanks Cloe for fore warning us about this scam.   I have account guard on my e-bay account which shows up green when you are on a real e-bay site.  It is in the e-bay tool bar...

Never click on a link in an email.

You can't trust anything to be what it says, so by never clicking on a link in an email, you will never fall victim to this type of scam.  You, or anyone.  Never, never, never click on a link in an email.  Let's make the world a safer place one less click at a time.  This was a public service announcement.

Thank you very much  bear_original

Now you have got me thinking, a little while back when I had Serendipity on eBay, I had someone ask me if she had purple accents...when all you had to do was look at her picture to see that she had....I logged into my eBay, and answered the question from there luckily, because the more I think about it the more it sounds like something like this!!!
Sorry you had to go through this Chloe, at least you caught it quickly...
Hugs,
Krista

Now that's interesting and I didn't know that, despite being a somewhat "seasoned" eBay user.

Thanks for the tip!

And to Kelly... I appreciate your public service announcement!  Thanks to you as well!

I added the Account guard after I recieved an email from e-bay  ( it wasn't ) saying there had been some illegal traffic in my Pay pal account and they had suspended the account until I updated my account.  Yes, it said click on this link and update your account.  I did click on it (silly me ) but a window came up saying this was not a proper e-bay or paypal account, report this to e-bay.
Now, as a few have said, I only answer mail directly from "my messages" in e-bay...

Thank you so much for letting us know about this scam.  If we keep each other up to date with all the nasties out there, hopefully we can save someone a lot of heartache.

Oh How awful!  Glad to hear that you were able to get it cleared up fast!  I'll just echo what the other folks here have said....

And if you do get messages proporting to be either from Pay Pal or from eBay.... you can just forward them (without clicking on anything!) to either

spoof@ paypal.com  or
spoof@ebay.com

Within a day, though usually within a few minutes, you'll get a return eMail stating that the message was really from one of these companies or not.  I usually get one or two of the fake messages a month.   bear_wacko

I hadn't heard of the baddies getting in through a "fake question" about a listing though... so thanks so much for the heads up!   bear_smile
