Did this just happen?  Geeesh!  My Aunt and Uncle came for a visit from England.  They just left after a month long visit.  During thier time here there were two fatal school shootings and a planned "Columbine style" school attack was intercepted and stopped here in Green Bay.

Sigh

I do hope your husband has a speedy recovery...now I'm off to watch the news. bear_cry

I saw it on the news. There are three dead and seven injured school girls and the killer is dead too. Not all injured may make it though. This is so awful. How on earth can somebody kill little girls? bear_sad  He must have been crazy. Dear American friends, you really live in a frightening world. bear_shocked Stay safe!

Hi Deb,
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to your husband.  Hope he's fully recovered soon.
I am heartsick about the shootings in Lancaster County.  We just got back from there 10 days ago.  We have fallen in love with the area and were actually talking about retiring there.  We go twice a year, in spring and fall and are very familiar with the area.  It is such a gentle, beautiful place and to think that someone - a neighbour even - could do such horrors to children makes me think there is little hope for all of us.  I can not comprehend the terror those children must have gone through.  I've been very upset all day.

                                                     hugs,

                                                     Brenda

Hi Deb,

Wishing your husband a speedy recovery - hope that he is feeling better.

So terribly sad to hear of this shooting at another school - what on earth is wrong with people.
I think that it is such a scary world when things like this happen.

Stay safe all.

Hugs
Carolyn

Such violence on such a calm and peceful people. We have a large Amish community near us, and have done a lot of business with one family in particular. They are very peaceful, unhurried, family people. It is so horrible to even think of something like this happening.

Best wishes to your hubby Deb.....

Its all over the news here in the UK.

We can relate because of Dumblane some years ago - its absolutely unimaginable- yet it continues to happen to innocent children. You'd think they would be safe in school.  It seem even more horrid to have happened to the Amish community who are world famous for their peace loving God-fearing way of life. (One of my aims in life is to own an Amish quilt- trivial in the light of things I know)  I sincerely hope the community heals and they don't view all outsiders as bad people.

My thoughts are with the victims' families including the wife and children of the man who did this - how is she feeling? - how does she explain to her children?   What the hell is happening to the world - excuse my language.....................

It's here, about 10 miles from where I live. When we heard "school shooting" yesterday, of course everyone panicked. I can't even explain the guilt over the relief of the knowledge that it wasn't "our" school. It's incomprehensibly horrible. The community is really shocked. The family is bewildered. The Amish are, too, and heartsick, and grieving, but so strong in their faith in God despite this that it's inspiring.

We're all sad, too, that this is the image of our home -- a school shooting, the guy who killed his family last year, the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. It's such a nice place to live, and you'd never know it from the network news.

It just makes you think how vulnerable children are at school.

It's terrible....what makes these lunatics do what they do? My heart goes out to all those families involved.

I'm just so sick and saddened over this.  I grew up with year round day trips to Lancaster. For this to happen to a community of people who are so devoted to peace..it's just uncomprehensible.

It was bad enough when kids were going after one another in the schools, but now for this turn where grown men are entering our schools, and for whatever reason targeting young girls.  It's just pure evil at work.

I'm saying prayers for the families and for the community.

I was shocked and hearsick when I heard this on the news. What drives people to these horrible acts? My heart truly goes out to all the families and those innocent children. bear_cry

Deb, I'm sorry your hubby had to have surgery and then more surgery from complications? It must be very stressful for you both. I hope he is now on a swift and straight road to recovery. Big hugs to you both.

A truly sad time with three deadly attacks in American schools in one week.  It's horrible enough when a child attacks other children, but what is up with the last two attacks where grown men targeted young girls????  In the shooting last week, the man sexaully assaulted all of the girls in the room before shooting one in the back of the head.  What a disgusting world we live in.  And the level of cowardice in an individual to point a gun at young Amish girls is unbelievable, talk about choosing victims who would never fight back.

My heart goes out to Mindy and everyone affected by these violent attacks.  I can't imagine the horror of waiting to find out if the school shooting is at your own child's school.

Peace and hugs to all,
Kelly

I am also very upset about this tragedy . . . we went to Lancaster Co. when I was on the trip to Philadelphia with my school girl friends.  There was such a peaceful calm and serene beauty to the area - and now this devatating event.  It's too much to comprehend.  I wish your hubby a speedy recovery, Deb.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers..my husband seems to be feeling much better today,,tho the 14 staples look nasty!no wonder the poor guy is all black and blue! Brenda we also vacation there twice a year..spring and fall..usuallly may and nov..sometimes earlier...its one of the places i feel most at peace..and you are right Mindy..the Amish are very strong in their faith and their community,,they will hold together until they heal..and blame is not their way..its awful anywhere but seems so wrong there is particular..no child should have to go thru this kind of horror. one of the things i take away with me is the pictures in my heart of the families and children i see at the auctions or about their everyday lives. thanks again to all of you deb

I've just been reading the latest press releases on the Amish shooting. Makes me so darn sick. His wife gave a statement. I'd be beside myself, gosh, I can't even imagine all that I'd be feeling had that been my husband.

Those poor innocent girls and like Kelly said, what a coward for choosing such targets. And how is killing them revenge for HIS OWN behavior 20 years ago?

I always think of the Amish as such kind hearted people. As Mindy said, I'm sure their faith and compassion through this incident is indeed truly inspiring to all!

I consider this guy a coward... if you want to take your own life, fine, but dont ruin the lives of innocent families/children.... not only did he ruin the girls lives and their families but now he ruined his kids lives as well...
