Daphne, sure they do have their bad days  bear_tongue
Did you change the white balance on your cam? Because from what I can see, it is the white that is glowing...I can adjust this on my cam  bear_whistle ...at least I could with my old one...but I´m such a lazy bugger when it comes to reading instructions
BTW...he´s lovely! bear_wub

Don´t give in, it´s just a matter of minutes

Daphne...
what kind of camera are you using?  Does it have a setting for center weighted, spot or matrix metering?

spot metering may be represented on the camera by a round dot.

spot metering will help even out the contrast betweent the two very different shades.

Nancy.....

HUH?????

What ever setting it's on there are multiple little squares that form an oval and I'm told are to balance out the light. I'm afraid I know very little about any of the cameras we have. I've been using hub's Canon EOS 20D... it's new and he hasn't figured it all out yet so that he can show me. bear_original I'm bad at the technical side of cameras. I do better with a point and shoot. This winter - after the holidays - I am going to spend some time working on my photography skills/camera knowledge. I will likely be picking your brain then!!

Thanks for the help!

Hi,
That's a digital SLR camera and you should have several meter settings on it.
Great camera by the way.

The HUH part is why I wrote the course. :photo: There's a big learning curve that comes with the new digital technology.

My 13 year old was within earshot doing his Algebra homework, listening to my groans and other various expressions of frustration     And he actually said, in his best "megaphone" voice imitation... "PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE BEAR!!"

Well, yes.

I've had the same problem before.

I'm thinking that there's something happening with focal distance and possibly one or more of the 3 dimensions, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

Maybe it's a matter of vertical angle? Distance from subject? Does anybody know?

Have you ever noticed how big your nose looks reflected on the back of a spoon?

bear_original OK, I'm in Nancy--

I keep telling myself that all I need is practice, but 1) I haven't found the time and 2) I'd rather practice with the benefit of some expert hand-holding.
