Hi guys,
I have just recieved yet another huge Intercal order, and in it is the first Kid mohair that I have ever ordered....I am so looking forward to working with it!!! BUT......my piece of KID9/H 1-1/2" medium density with with H finish is all matted, the balled up mats that my cats get that take me hours to get out!!! Is this normal? Do I brush it? Or just work with it as is? I couldn't imagine selling a bear with mats, but wouldn't brushing it ruin the finish of the mohair that isn't matted...which I love... Advice please
Hugs,
Krista
Krista, work with it as is! Careful when cutting, so you dont cut the mats, and you may have to pull the cut piece from its mother! You will soon learn how fun this is to sew..........go for it!!! Pam
Hi Krista,
I've made 3 or 4 bears with this particular quality. I am in no way an expert but I took advice and rinsed my mohair with a small amount of conditioner, hung it to dry and then made my bear. By conditioning it, the matts then were much easier to untangle and it made the mohair even softer. I tried it with one piece without conditioning it first and it was much harder to comb or brush out without the fur becoming fuzzy. When I was completley done in both cases, I misted the bear with water and then just crunched with my fingers to bring back the gorgeous curls.
Be back with a couple photos...
This is Phoebe in Old Tan

Hopefully this helps...
