Six people were injured and about 100 houses were damaged when a tornado swept through several London streets leaving a trail of destruction.
Rooftops were ripped off and cars were badly damaged as the freak weather hit Kensal Rise in north-west London.
One man suffered a serious head injury and five people were treated at the scene for minor injuries and shock.
Eleven fire crews were called to Chamberlayne Road, which has been cordoned off because of the debris.
Witnesses said there was heavy rain and sleet, then debris flying through the air.
A fast moving squall line moved across Southern England today bringing heavy rain, hail and thunder and some very gusty winds.
Winds along the squall line were gusting up to 60mph, and as the line pushed across Northwest London it spawned a tornado causing localised damage to houses and leaving up to six people injured.
The tornado is thought to have touched down in Harlesden and Kensal Rise, Northwest London at around 11am this morning. Residents and people working nearby talked of dark skies and swirling winds as the tornado developed. As it touched down it is said to have ripped up bricks and roof tiles and trees in the area, with everything taking to the skies.
Scary for us Brits as we are not used to Tornados.
Hugs Jane.
I heard about it on the radio but those are the first pics I have seen!
Geez, it certainly caused some damage!
I didn't think England ever had that kind of weather! scary.

YIKES, we've got some pretty freaky weather in Belgium today too, let's hope we don't get any tornados - strange to think of them in England! Stay in safe and warm over there!

Look at that beautiful brick house, now in pieces. :(
I hope for a quick cleanup and full recovery for those injured. What a tragedy so close to the holidays.
Tornados are vicious! So sorry for the injured folks and damage. Hope the healing starts quickly.
Oh no! I didn't think England ever had tornadoes. How terrible, even worse now when the weather is cold and the holidays are near. I'm glad no one was killed. I wisha rapid recovery for all.
What a shock to see this on the news today! It was very stormy here in the South East in the early hours of the morning, with high winds and driving rain ... but a tornado? This is the UK for goodness sakes!!
How scary. You just never know . . . .
I'm another one who thought England didn't have tornadoes
But that's definitely tornado damage. Thank goodness no one was killed, as that's some truly nasty debris to have flying about.
I know from other friends in the UK that the weather's being truly awful. Please stay safe over there
Oh my Gosh!

So tragic....It is so hard to vision what it is like to survive natural disasters like this...

WOW I dodn't think London got tornadoes either. Talk about weather changing the world around. Hope Aus never gets them.......at the moment we only get tiny little windstorms we call willy-willies.....the worst they'll pick up are bird avaires, garden sheds and light stuff. nad they are pretty rare as well....I've only ever seen one and that was in the desert near Ayres Rock.
I've just heard all about it on the TV news and I saw the pictures that you have posted too, pretty scary stuff and not something that you would think the UK got. We had to sit through a Hurricane which hit Long Island, New York when we were living there and that was really something

I hope everyone is recovering from such a shock, and at this time of year too! The weather all over the world is so unsettled now compared to when I was a child and tornadoes are a result of this.I think they can happen anywhere these days.Keep safe everyone! Fredbear is right! Time to save our planet!
Wow, that is scarey. amazing how strong nature is
scary! I hope those that were injured will be ok.
I saw this on TV and I can not believe that there are tornadoes in London. It is crazy. I do hpe the injured will heal ok, but I bet they will never forget.
And Yes it is time to save our planet for future generations.
