Awe guys, what a wonderful time of year for all.

We are all so busy and running around like chickies with our heads cut off. I have all the windows in the house open to fight off the hot flashes! Garnet has to wear his woolies 24/7.  Mistle Toe!! I don't think so! Garnet and I have been married 33 years and we are so past that!  bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin

I wish all the best to you guys who have all become such wonderful and dear friends and hope everyone has a chance to be with their families and to cherish another great year.

For those at the hot flash time of their life just don't sweat the small stuff and may Santa be awesome to all.

Hugs and Blessings Louise and Garnet

Or the one that says "They're not hot flashes, they're power surges"!  Hang in there, Louise . . . you'll get through it.

Yes, I think I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrome from fanning my face.   I used to love to wear sweaters.  I still love my sweaters but can't wear them.

oh they are not fun....I went through them wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy early..at 30 years old, my mum did the same. Lucky I had my kids in my 20's. I can be embarrassing at times, I did get some strange looks, especially when it happened while I was in the bank...the lady behind the glass, gave me such a funny look, I think she thought I was feeling nervous, because I was up to no good
Your poor hubby, windows open at this time of year bear_grin .......I have fans next to my com, bed and sitting room chair...it's wonderful!  bear_grin
I hope they pass soon for you.

Awww Louise,

And there are simply so many pleasant ways to enjoy hot flashes.....

sitting in the snow....and not coming in until you have gone through the entire list of names for snow in Sweden, Alaska, Norway, Finland. Greenland.....

standing in the rain.........................and watching the steam form around you....

standing naked in front of the open freezer.....that one can be hard to explain......

telling your signifigant other that you are prepareing for next summers wet T-shirt contest....while towleing off your hair.....that one got some action....shhhh

feeling like you are going to broil and your sweat system isn't kicking in........that one is so miserable....and gives plausability to spontaneous combustion.....

oh honey....I hope you smiled a little and really hope you don't suffer too much.....youd think after giving 40 years to the cause that God could have taken a little pity on us.....one of the many questions I want answers to when the time comes.....

OH Stop you guys!  I am not being sacriligious.....He has the Best sense of humor in the universe.....

Take hot flashes for example..................

Hmmmm...sitting in the snow! Wow what a wonderful idea Dilu Honey!

My Mom used to call them sparkles! Oh gosh, I wish! I am so flaming hot one minute I want to strip to my skippies and then so cold I want to jump in a hot tub!

I lay awake most of the night with a fan directly on me and just wish at times I were a man and could avoid this torture! Anyway I have nothing but the deepest of respect for those of us who endure the curse!  bear_wub  bear_wub

Yep go with the power surges   I remember being in the shops and would get a power surge and would say to them that the lights in the shops were so bright and they would always agree so that theory always worked..........

Oh Louise, you are a kindred spirit. When I get hot flashes I'll go outside in the snow. It is heaven....I look like a nut outside in 20 degree weather but hey who cares?  Picture a a women in a pink bathrobe (only for the neighbors sake- decency issue) fuzzy slippers with a diet Pepsi in one hand, fanning myself with the other.  My Michael, who has lived with me 21 years, keeps complaining he is freezing, since he goes to bed at 9:00 pm and I don't saunter into bed until 2-3 am, I get the last say on the thermostat....Lucky me....

I have stood in front of the freezer too....oh the creative things one must do to stay cool.

But dear Louise, my wonderful doctor placed me on a nonestrogen based medication to help with the hot flashes. I can't take hormone replacement because of being a cancer survivor and it is not recommended for me. But, I can say that medication cut down on hot flashes by about 90%. I can sleep through the night and not wake up soaked to the bone. Nor do I break out in a pouring sweat in the middle of a business meeting (that is awful).  Ask your doctor about what, if any, would be good for you. There is no need to suffer. Now I still get them but not as bad or as often. I still go outside in winter weather for  I find that is the quickest way to cool down. In the summer, the freezer is my best friend.

Bear Hugs to you

You mean men have hormones?????????????????????? Oh yeah. Those things that seem to be around BEFORE you get married ....... aggghhh .. I am going through the perimenopausal INSOMNIA and NIGHT WAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I had a baby to feed it would be ok but instead I come into my studio and check TT ... egads. What a life I lead. I'm even boring in the middle of the night.

Toby

That is me too! I just turned 44 last week and I have been having premenopausal issues for for years, night sweats, insomnia, and the most wonderful, spotting between constantly. I have seen the dr had a zillion test, I am perfectly healthy, YEAH, So for me it is a guessing game.  No other women in my family have gone thru menopause, cause while it was all the rage in the 70's they all had Hysterectomies. So cousins and me are all just guessing. I have occassional hot flashes that I refer to as NUCLEAR meltdowns!!! bear_grin  So I woke up this am at 4 AM so Here I am posting and photo editing. Gotta do something.

bear_original Well thanks to me mum, I won't have to worry about 'power surges' til I"m in my late forties.... although my 'spaying doctor' wanted to speed up my biological clock...  bear_ermm  no thank you!

I do have a secret weapon, though, one I've all ready used for PMS symptoms  bear_thumb   You know, the kind where you just look at a man and you want to rip his head off, just because he's a man  bear_angry  bear_grin  bear_ermm  I'm surprised my hubby survived the courting ritual at all!

Seriously I've used red clover tea to great success  bear_thumb It contains natural phytoestrogens (farmers with cows and horses beware of the stuffs!!!)  BUT for a human female, it works wonders.  It does help to balance things out.  I can't describe it more than that. Its just a very 'centering' type of tea.  And I will say it does taste very mild, and very nice indeed!  bear_thumb   When I was having 'issues' I'd drink three to four cups a day...no probs with sleep patterns etc etc.

Sending along hugs  , Polar bear and sea lion thoughts...and big hopes that your hubby survives along with you  bear_flower

My doc and I are having an on going argument....She says I need 8 hours of sleep.  I maintain that 6 is fine....

No matter what pill she gives me to try I still wake up at 3 am - 3:30AM
6 hours wihtout a pill or 6 hours with a pill?

It seems like a no brainer but maybe I am missing something......

Personally, I will stop taking the blasted meds....who needs them if they dont work?  Not to mention the wear and tear on one's kindneys and liver.....

I think the next time she asks I'll tell her everything is fine.  She is in her early 40's  she doesn't know from nothing yet~!!!

and I rather like the house at 3 am-its quiet, i can play with the gollies and teds, do new patterns, sew......Last monday I made bread and muffins and did a new pattern....there is something to be said for early am creativity.....

and 5 minute naps in the afternoon where I fall asleep with the needle in my hand and wake up the same way.....

PS  It was the changing the bed at 3 am that got to me, Louise.....

DebbieD Posts: 3,540

5 minute afternoon naps???  Dilu, honey, I give full fledged naps in the afernoon!  A good two hours if left alone!  And personally I see nothing wrong with that  bear_happy   Basically I feel anymore if my body wants to be awake at a certain time, or take a nap, there's nothing wrong with that.  I've got a lifestyle that suits it...

As for meds/no meds and same amount of sleep, we'll, there's a no brainer!  bear_tongue  bear_laugh  bear_ermm

Dilu: I too love being all by my self at 2 or 3:00 am. Last night I was up at 2:00 am baking bread. My Michael was down stairs sound asleep. Nobody is around wanting dinner or wanting to talk to me. Nothing. I love it. But, I also did not get up until 11:30 am this morning either (Thanks to dad calling me)....None-the-less, I like the alone time to do what I want.

If the hot flashes get really bad, though, see a doctor to anybody who is suffering...I had a hysterectomy which produced mild warm flushes. No problem, I can live with that. It was the anti-cancer medications I am on that produce wicked (really, really wicked) hot flashes. For that she put me on a nonestrogen based medication that cuts the hot flashes by about 90%. It is a lifesaver for me. So ladies, don't suffer... Ask your doctor to see if you are somebody that could benefit from medication for hot flashes. That is of course you are suffering....

Hi All,
I prefer to think of them as "Personal Tropical Vactions" or "As my inner child playing with matches". That inner child is always getting me into trouble!

On the serious side, my dorctor recomended an herbal suppliment called Black Cohosh. I have been taking it for about 2 months and found that I am only waking up once a night (I could time my hourly night sweats before) and am hardly experincing any daytime hot flashes.  From what I understand it doesn't work for everyone, but it sure is worth a shot.

That's perfect! I will just have to envision a sandy beach and open a wine cooler! bear_grin  bear_grin  Soy protein powder worked for me.

I agree, 6 hours seems to be all that I need. From 5:00 - 7:00 AM is my favorite time of the day......it's just me and the bears.
