My Debbie's bears website got named that rather by default...I simply could not come up with a decent name.... However, I've got a choice to make a name change now for my website.  But I'm not sure that would be a good idea at this point?  I've been using Debbie's Bears for roughly two years now.  Not that I've got a strong following, but I wonder if switching my name at this point would be for the better?

Ideas anyone??  bear_flower

Hi Deb. I really feel that if you have a following it is difficult to change! I think your name is wonderful and after all it is you! Just my opinion but I personaly feel it might take awhile to get back. But in time of course it would.

 Thanks Louise!!!     I know in the end, I'm the one who'll be making the decision, but I just wondered what other bear artists thought.

Blossom Bruins?
OK, I know you weren't looking for a name suggestion! (Blossom Bears is taken by the way!)

I'm with Louise... but if you don't have a huge following then it might not pose a problem. I know I went through this thought process a couple of times in the first few years I was making bears. I think it was just because I'd get bored with the name! but in the end, I never changed it!

Not sure if I'm helping or not!

I love all of the creative and clever names people come up with, but I once read that having your name or at least part of it in your business name is good for an artist's business. I called my business "Bear It All" for many years but it seemd like most of my collectors didn't associate that name with my work, they just went by MY name. For example one said, "I have three Tami Eveslage Bears" not "I have three "Bear It All" bears" Now I make dolls too so my official business name is "Tami Eveslage Original Teddy Bears and Dolls" The name part is bigger on my card and the rest of it is smaller.

bear_whistle When I was dog grooming, my salon was "Debbie's Grooming"  bear_whistle   I did find it easiest to keep it as simple as possible.  And the new name I had in mind doesn't have my name in it at all.

So perhaps it will be for the best to keep with the same name....besides, Jane's just done me a fab new avatar  bear_thumb

Debbie: Interesting you should ask about the name of your business. I don't sell bears hence I don't have a business name. But when I took a class from Dennis Shaw, there were several artist in that class and that topic came up. Dennis said pretty much what Tami said. You want your name to be a part of your business name. People associate your bears with you (your name). So that was his opinion as I understood it. I thought I would pass on.....

I've decided to take everyone's excellent advice and stick with my original Debbie's Bears.   bear_thumb  bear_flower Thanks for talking me through it.... and letting me know that the name really isn't half as bad as I think it is  bear_grin

Hi Debbie!

I think Debbie's Bears is a great name. Simple, easy to remember and associates your name with your business.
I wanted to go with the name Bonnie Bears or even Bonita Bares (bonita being my given name) but both were already taken. Since I already used Mountain Dreamer Designs for my other art endeavors, I just went with Mountain Dreamer Bears.
Which is all totally beside the point. bear_wacko  anyhooo.... I just learned something the other day I thought I'd share with you although you may already now about it. In Missouri if you are doing business under a name that doesn't include your last name and a 'recognizable version' of your first name, you have to register a "fictitious name." Strange but true.  It only costs $7 for five years. Here is the link for more info:

..I don't know, am on the fence on this one.  I don't call my creations 'bears' so much as I refer to 'em as "fribbles" and that's what I've called 'em since I was sixteen.  It fits for all my mediums, and I like to use it as a noun, so that's how my name came about [fribble means something frivolous, I figured it fit!].  I don't think of my bears as Amelia/Amy bears, and I guess I've never asked if any of my customers would prefer to use my name...always thought of the name as secondary to the actual fribble.

However, I am anal about words, fonts and names [my other half and I get into quibbles about semantics about once a week], so am perhaps weird.  I like your name, Debbie---because no matter what you call 'em they'll still be YOUR creations.  =)
