Well, the hubs is giving it a go, but he has some thoughts about it:

1.  It is bland, but also doesn't upset his tum.
2.  its along the same line as Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice; EXCEPT it isn't frozen
3.  He hates mushrooms, I mean really really hates them; and he didn't know how much they use them.  From now on he will be choosing his meals rather than taking whatever they send.

He says that the meals taste fresh enough-especially the meats.

NOW here is the odd part:  You have to supplement with salads, fruits, vegys etc.....

The breakfasts seem to be the worst-dried scrambled eggs?  Why not just scramble one in the non stick?

They have snacks made out of soy that he loves, The Sour Cream and Chive chips sent him over the moon...Really crunchy and yummy-he let me have one!

The amount of protein in each thing blows my mind-

Has he lost anything?  I don't know....

some of you wondered what the food was like, that's the best I can tell you.....

The portions are "small" he says, but they look pleanty big enough to me.....

Anyway, the upshot is that he hasn't found my chocolate stash yet,

I'll let you know when he gets back down to a size two....

So then give us an example of a dinner. Do they send the protein and starch and then you have to buy and prepare the veg and fruit? Where's the relief from cooking in that?

And I've gotta ask... if this is all 'fresh' food and yet they send you a weeks worth at a time... how many preservatives do they add???? Eewww!

Since meeting my husband 6 1/2 years ago I've stopped eating frozen meals or any prepared foods that come in a box, etc. as he'll only eat freshly prepared meals with fresh meat and produce. (For someone who hates cooking this was awful for me!) But now when I eat a frozen meal or even buy the prewashed and cut lettuce in a bag my tongue tingles! It's the preservatives I'm told. All those chemicals. bear_tongue

It sounds like he's tolerating it all ok. Perhaps if he adjusts to smaller portions etc. he'll do well when he's back on Dilu Cookin'!!!

Better keep that stash of chocolate well hidden!!!!

I tried Jenny Craig once, lost 10 pounds on it but gained it all back when I went back to eating "real" food. LOL
It does work, the pre-packaged stuff you will lose weight. I have had better long term luck on the Body for Life diet, I started it last year, you eat very low sugar if any, lean meats and veggies and fruit. It taught me how to eat and to eat 5 small meals a day. I'm proud to say last Dec my weight was 138 and now I weigh 118 and have been that weight for 4 months now. It does pay to eat healthy and exercise!
I know the food taste bland, but tell hubby he will get use to that!! Hang in there!
Mushrooms..........uggggg me too, I use to like them but can't eat them anymore!!!

Tami, I did the Body for Life plan too (in 2001) and it really works and makes loads of healthy sense. You are eating right and exercising a lot. I was the smallest I'd ever been in my adult life and was pretty toned and kept at it for nearly two years. I really need to do it again.  bear_rolleyes

I know I love it, I work out 4 times a week along with the eating right. I stopped smoking 5 years ago and in less than 2 years had packed on 20 lbs. So I had to do something, hubby suggested the Body for Life and it is great!
I feel better at 43 than I did when I was 35. Eating good and exercise is really the KEY!

When my thyroid went bonkers and I gained weight from it I was determined about getting back to my "normal".  I had a nurse at my old doctors office say "you won't loose that weight.  Oh, I'm sorry I have weight issues myself, I shouldn't say that".  Huh?!? What a trip she was, way to be supportive of patients health issues bear_wacko
So I decided once the meds had leveled me out where I could once again control my weight (when your thyroid goes you have ZERO control over your weight. Even if you're eating like normal that one little thing in your neck throws the whole works outta whack..it STUNK!) Anywho... I did the weight watchers point thing.  I didn't go to any meetings, I personally knew I didn't need the support aspect. I had a friend at work who did fantastically on the system and she would give me all of the stuff.  It was awesome and I lost it all easily with no packaged food or stuff to buy.  I only bought a digital scale in the beginning until I got use to eyeballing foods accurately. It's been about 2 years and I'm still at my "norm".
I know of some who use it after using the prepackaged stuff successfully.  When they go back to "real food" or "whole food" learning portion size and nutritional content is key for long term success.
Good luck to your hub, so far sounds pretty good!

Chrissi, it's great to know someone else who has the same condition as me! I was tested for 6 months (blood test every 2 weeks) so the doctors could make sure it was definately a thyroid problem as they didn't want to just give me the meds for the sake of it (I think because I was/am in my early 20's..although I turn 25 soon  bear_ermm ). My last test before putting me on the meds was so abnormal that they asked if I'd noticed my hair falling out!!  bear_shocked : for anybody who doesn't know, once you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism you are on medication for life as your body completely depends on it...it took a while for me to accept at first but I'm used to it now!

Going back to the diet; I went to Slimming World last year and lost 1 1/2 stone...unfortunately I very nearly lost someone close to me in a car accident at the end of summer so I stopped going...I've put a bit back on now.   BUT, I am starting the diet again tomorrow - I've just had an internet shopping delivery of over £100 of food (mostly fruit, veg and other healthy stuff) so I'm raring to go! I NEED to lose weight now or Stuart will be rolling me down the aisle in August!!

Dilu, please let him know that it really is worth it in the end - it's tough at first but it will become second nature before long.

Hey, what's the deal with mushies?? I LOVE 'em!!  bear_tongue

Not to throw the topic off..but anyone who's having trouble with weight should always have a physical and rule out thyroid too, so it's not that far off.
My tests were all "within range" early on.  My aunt in underactive too and when I would go to this doctor (no longer my doc) and tell them my symptoms they would look at the one test and say, "nope you're in range"...never comparing it to the older test to see that I was slowly slipping out my own range.  They sent me to 4  different specialist and finally the last one...a Neurologist said "your thyroid is very much out of range". Hellooooooo, thank you for putting me through months of hell, insurance co-pays, and testing all while not listening to me.  The first medication didn't work and as you know it takes a while for the medication to kick in. By the time I was put on my current medication I wound up in the ER with an ER doctor telling me about Thyroid comas..because my level was SO bad. I was having trouble staying alert during the day, eating, sleeping, my hair was falling out. Needless to say I found a new fantastic doctor and I'm much more blunt with my doctors after all of that.  If they won't listen I leave and don't return.

If you're gaining weight, feeling run down but your habits haven't changed get a simple blood test just to be sure it's not your thyroid or any other underlying condition. Have the test done again if you don't see an improvement. bear_thumb

With an overactive thyroid the opposite happens with your weight... you loose weight. I was 20 when my first bout with Graves Disease (overactive thyroid) began. The rest of the symptoms were as Chrissi mentioned.... I couldn't stay awake or concentrate, also I was moody, my skin was very tight, I couldn't tolerate heat and I was shaky. It took 3 months for the doctors to figure out what was wrong... my GYN diagnosed it at my annual exam! Go figure! Having diabetes I think was really throwing the diagnosis off. Anyway, 9 months later the condition went into remission. No more meds, no symptoms, normal tests! 10 years later it came out of remission. Luckily I knew the symptoms and right off insisted on a TSH test. After only 6 weeks on meds it went back into remission again. That was 5 years ago. I'm holding my breath, just waiting. Doc says the next time I have trouble with it it's coming out... surgically...  which will require I be on replacement meds the rest of my life.

Educate yourself.... it may help you or someone else! More info on Thyroid diseases here:

I don't diet....because I graze all day long....but I do do the exercise thing.  All winter long it rains here, so I do leslie Sanson walk aerobics....helpful but not as good as walking out side or swimming.....sigh, is it March yet?

I agree....what's the point if you have to supplemenet all the meals?  Well, I am being quiet about that and hoping for the best....

Tomarrow I'll scan the menu book in and share that with you so you guys can get an idea....I want more of his chips....but they are his and I am being good.....

dilu on a search for crunchy salty......I bet the gollies get into things at night......

I successfully lost 120lb in 2 years with WW and kept it off for 3 years. Unfortunately the depression and meds I had to go on 3 years ago sabotaged my efforts and now I have to lose again, although not quite as much.  bear_sad   I'm back at WW and attendind meetings cause even though I know the system backwards, I need the support of the group.  bear_grin
