To save on deomestics my darling husband went abd bought a GPS Navigator for the car yesterday. I fully admit to being a bit left and right challenged while directing, say left while pointing right....I really DON"T see the problem but.......he seems to think there is.

Anyway I sat down today and went to enter the addresses of all the shows I want to get to this year, both lapiday and bear shows .....well what a frustrating exercise that was!!! Some of these are up to 2 hours drive away and I only go once a year so the venue is always a bit hard to find.

GPS's work on street addresses, shows are often advertised as XYZ Club or similar, Road , Suburb. This is fine for the larger towns where the venue might be considered a POI (Point to Interest) and be listed under POI's in the GPS if not you have to go hunt the actual street address up etc etc etc. Even finding them under POI's in the GPS can be a bit of an effort as it is catergoies and these are not always clear. I found a hockey club under amusements not sport!!

As a show orgainser I have been guilty of just advertising the show venue and street but in future I will actually give the full address as in number, street and suburb.

As these technological gadgets become more affordable to more people I think all orgainisers should take the tip on board.

And here's to a 2007 of less domestics about navigating in the car!!!!! He can tell the machine it's an idiot.....yyoohhoo

I was just creating postcards and the newpaper advertisement for my show and did exactly that... put not only the venue name (which a well known place) but the street address and continued to say "just off Route 3A across from...."

Last year with my first show I didn't do this... I put the name of the venue and street address but not further direction. I got some many phone calls asking for directions. It sucked up my time and I kept kicking myself for not being more specific in my ads!

Sandra, dont feel bad about being directionally challenged, I heard it's a 'girl thing'- Something about how our brains are wired means us females aren't as good at directions/map reading as the guys.....hehe.  Of course even when we *are* right, the males don't usually believe us and go their own way anyhow! bear_original
When we drive to  shows (Mum and I) I always navigate and she drives, we get lost a lot less often that way hehe. I seem to have more of a head for it than her.
