Tracy,
Glad you located someone to dig you out!!! My hubby & I were looking at all the pictures you posted & can see that the road isn't very far at all, but all the flat open land around your place...and all that wind...it blew all the snow & really dumped it all right smack dab on you guys!! We will all have our storms of 2007 to talk about for years to come!!!

Hi Lynn!  I'm glad your family is back home and safe!! That's the sticker about living in the country if you lose power........you then have to make a choice to brave the roads or stay home where it's cold.  That was so much ice they had!! bear_shocked   The ice is just the worst.......much worse than all the snow we had this time.  At least we didn't lose our power, thank goodness!  We do have the wood burning fireplace for some heat, but it only heats part of the house.  Our major problem without power is losing the well.  I am going to be hounding Darren for a generator!  I hate not having water!!

As I am typing, our savior from the snow is outside scooping away!  He's only been here an hour, and is almost finished already!  It was really something to see just how much snow he was scooping up.  I couldn't begin to guess what that would be in shoveling.........it's mind boggling!! bear_wacko He had to back into the highway many, many times, and dump it in the ditch by our pine tree.  There just wasn't anywhere else to put it! bear_wacko

The funny thing is, my five year old is having a fit because 'his' snow piles are being moved!  He doesn't care if we get our cars out........he wants to play again like he did yesterday! bear_rolleyes  Oh, just wait until he sees the new, bigger snow piles that are being made out there.  Fun, fun, fun!!

can you please send us some rain.

Karen (and all you dry Aussie gals), I wish I could!!   I would send you all this snow in the form of rain........that would be lots of rain for ya!

I love the photo of the snow frozen as it is blown over the side and is suspended in air, wow!

It is pretty, isn't it! bear_grin I love looking at the drifts and all the shapes made by the wind.  We have been trying to figure out just how that huge drift formed in front of the house.  It is strange that there is such a big open area right by the house, before the drift starts.  Like maybe the wind was also whipping around the house and pushing the drift up that way as well.  Very interesting! bear_grin  bear_grin

Ah, the man has finished and we are free!!

FREE!!!

    Darren and my oldest are heading out to finish what needs done with shovels....like clearing off my van. bear_grin  He's taking more pics of the monster snow piles.  I haven't looked yet, but he told me at least one of them is as high as the house!!! I'll post more pics later today! bear_thumb

That was the problem in a nutshell Charlotte!  There was just nothing to stop the snow.......until it got in our yard! bear_wacko Thank goodness we don't have storms like this often, as there is really nothing we can do to prevent it happening again.  Not enough room for a windbreak out front (that would just dump it in our yard too) or even a snowfence.  Thank goodness as well for wonderful, kind neighbors!  We did have to pay him (we would have insisted anyway) but the bill was only $65.  Can't beat that! bear_thumb

This storm will go down in Iowa 'history'......."remember that big storm of 2007"?  I can hear it now!!  We'll all be doing it! bear_grin

Tracy: Those pictures are amazing. I'm so glad you got somebody to help you dig out of that. My goodness. You guys got hit just as hard if not more than we did in MN. I have to say, when plowed, the banks of snow are so high it is like mini mountians isn't it? We are getting warmer (in the mid 30's) this week and hopefully will melt some of the snow. I hope so, I need to get outside in the back to refill my bird feeders....Again those pictures are amazing!!

  He's a happy camper now!!  Once he saw the huge snow piles made in the yard, he forgot all about it! bear_grin

We actually got above freezing today, and had a tiny bit of melting going on.  That helped clear the roads, thank goodness!  And by the end of the week it is supposed to be in the 40's!!
