mug.jpgboscastle.jpgI was just updating my blog and for some reason, my thoughts meandered to the theme of 'simple pleasures'.  Before I knew it, I found myself taking my digicam to the kitchen and snapping a photo of my favourite mug ... it's incredible where these blogs lead you!  Anyway, it made me think it would be fun to share our favourite mugs!  A little work avoidance tactic!!

So, do you always have your morning tea/coffee in a particular mug?  Share the pic with us if you do and please tell us the story behind your mug if there is one!  And of course, once you've done that, you might as well put the kettle on and make yourself a nice hot cuppa!  After all, it is Friday and we're all entitled to a simple pleasure now and again!

This is my favourite mug.  I've been drinking from it for the past seven years at least and the reason I love it is because it reminds me of one of my favourite places in the UK.  It's made by a potter called Roger Irving and he has had his little studio in beautiful Boscastle in Cornwall since the 60's, making unique pieces which can't be purchased anywhere else in the world.  I absolutely love visiting Boscastle and once I've taken a walk over the cliffs to look out over the Atlantic Ocean, I can never leave empty handed!  Every morning I enjoy a nice cup of strong hot coffee in this mug, when the house is quiet after everyone has left for work.  bear_original

I'm sure I can't be the only one to indulge in a little mug ritual every day ... anyone else daft enough to share theirs?

Thanks for your post. It's made me smile this afternoon, to think about where I live and something as simple as the mug I use bear_original

P.s I love your mug, it looks so quaint.

I didn't spot that Stitch!    Better make sure I have my lippy on next time I get a daft idea!

Susan, if you ever get the opportunity to visit Cornwall, there are so many places like this to visit!  It really is absolutely beautiful there.  Every time I visit Boscastle it's either raining or blowing a gale, but it's so beautiful, I never mind the weather!  Having said that, I've had some holidays in Cornwall where the weather has easily matched the Med and when it's like that, I'm certain there's nowhere else I'd rather be on the planet.  :)

Wow, Sandy, you have the most beautiful view to admire while you drink your coffee and what a sensational beach!  It's gorgeous!   You are so lucky to live somewhere like that.  Love your mug by the way and that cat looks adorable curled up beside it.  Thanks for taking the time to share ... I've really enjoyed your post!

  I couldn't help but smile at your reflection in the kettle aswell!!!!

I can't quite believe that I have just spent 10 minutes sorting out pictures of my two favourite cups!!!  Oh well!!!!

Anyway, these are my two favourites.  I'm not a coffee fan, so usually drink tea.  You may not be able to tell, but the cow cup and saucer is actually massive!!!  I choose which one to use depending on how thirsty I am!!!!

Ellen....luv that swirly blue mug.  How calming!

I've never bought cute mugs.  I have the 8 basic mugs that came with my dinnerware set.  But back when I was at my worst with being sick I was at the pharmacy picking up a script and saw a little "sale" table.  I saw these 2 mugs and thought "I'd rather be there"...so I bought them and now they're my favorite tea-n-honey cups. I'd still like to be there, but for the good reasons....fall and pumpkins, crisp air.... bear_original

Picture-1.jpgThank you so much for the invitation to procrastinate a bit Paula!!!!!  I'm prone to procrastinate anyway, but with an invitation... well, I could hardly pass this up!  I'm happy to join you for tea!

Tea cups figure fairly prominantly in my favorite book, so I do have a mini collection of Alice china, cups, tea pots, etc.... but THIS one is my favorite!  My Cheshire Cat Mug!  I got this in a "head" shop near the Kent State University Campus in Kent, Ohio, at some point in the late eighties!  Why was I there?  ... well... just to buy this cup of course!     bear_innocent

Anyway, the Cheshire cat on the mug is ordinarily a dusty shade of blue, but when you put a hot drink in the mug, he magically disappears... just his smile remains!  After twenty years, he kinda turns this cream color and is still a bit visable....  bear_ermm

My FAVORITE mug though... and he still makes me grin from ear to ear, and reminds me that

"...we're all mad here!"

Thanks Paula!

I prefer a smaller cup or mug that only holds about 3/4 of a cup of coffee.  I like it...but not a ton of it.  You may recognize the middle one as a Special Coffe type of mug from a bar.... it is.  Coffee with Tia Maria in it and a big dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top?  Yup..one of those.  It is nice and thick so keeps my coffee hot for quite a while which is a good thing as I often get sidetracked and then go back to find it cold.  The other two are also of the "tiny" variety made by potters from Salt Spring Island (which is a small island inhabited by mostly artsy folk) off the coast of B.C.  coffee_mugs_May__2007_.jpg_003.jpg

I wish I had a beautiful view out my window...but..my neighbours are renovating so it looks like this...coffee_mugs_May__2007_.jpg_002.jpg

But...I do a lot of pretending...so it really looks like this to me....Teddy_Tea_Party_.jpg_003.jpg

Paula, what a fun threat!  bear_grin
You know, when i saw your mug with the shiny kettle next to it, it reminded me of an email I once received:
it showed an foto somebody had taken of a shiny kettle and put to the ebay- auction of this keelte.
Well, this alone is not funny...but the guy was nekkid, when he took the picture!

I'm so chuffed to see I'm not the only daft one here ... what fun this thread has turned out to be and what splendid mugs!   They all really give clues to everyone's personality!   bear_smile

Would you believe it, I have just checked my cupboards and can't believe how many mugs I own!  31 is far more than I would ever have guessed at!  bear_rolleyes  Hey, Ellen, you're not alone in your mug fetish  (love those blue mugs by the way!!!)

I think I'll have to get the digicam cranked up tomorrow to share a couple more with you ...

I saw that ad Gaby...it was too funny! Who wants to buy a mug from a naked man....accckkk! I would never be able to drink out of that mug without the nasty image of him popping into my head *body shiver*

I dont have a favorite mug, but I do have alot of different mugs in the cupboard. I hate big mugs and leave those for hubby to eat ice cream out of (he LOVES his ice cream!) To me, big mugs are too heavy once they are full and by the time you get to the bottom of your cup, its ice cold.

Bear Hugs,

Kim
