She's finally arrived!!
She's a 1988 Teddy Rose, as old as I am and she came all the way from the USA... I'm so pleased. She was quite cheap as she has no box or certificate which is a shame... but ah well! I think I'll call her Elsie May.
Do any of the rest of you have Steiff, or just artist bears or your own creations?
EEEE!!!
What a lovely bear!! And a great name too!!! Everyone needs as least one Steiff bear in their collection!!
Although my collection is predominantly artist bears, I do have a couple of Steiff bears. I got my first two Steiff bears on my 21st birthday a couple of years ago, but my most special Steiff bear called 'Alfie' dates to c.1906 and my husband bought me him as my wedding present.
Here he is:
Oooh, wow, Samantha, what a beautiful bear! Is he white or blond?
I've always craved a Steiff, but I never knew which one until I found these bears Shes a bit weird though: one of her arms has her hair running in the wrong direction
Doesn't matter, you can't really tell when she's fluffed up! She's centre-seamed too...
What other bears do you have? I hope not more 1906 bears, or you might have a break-in!
Oh Cloe love your steiff, I became a proud owner of my first steiff at christmas-Black Watch Bear
and I love him so sooooooooo much he is still wrapped in all his tissue and outer box and i take him out when I am really blue and squeeze ever so gently
Oooh, wow, Samantha, what a beautiful bear! Is he white or blond?
Awww thanks! He is blonde. I don't have any other old Steiff bears!! I had longed for a really old Steiff bear since I was a little girl, and I know I am so so lucky to have a bear like 'Alfie' in my collection. Most of the rest of my collection are artist bears.
Aww, looks like I'll have to locate my raid elsewhere then, sinceAlfie is such a special bear... darn :P
I have to show you thins guy, who I've fallen in love with (donations welcome ) And he doesn'r even have his button any more! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … :WNA:US:12 He's beautiful... If I could afford it I'd love an old bear.
I just looked up your Black Watch Bear, Sue, He's lovely! Is he the musical one?
Just looked at the ebay listing, What a price, WOW, could not justify that, but he is lovely
Yes my bear is the musical one and of course I have to wind him occasionally so he does not seize up
PS I bought him in the christmas sales from big UK bear website at a lot less than his retail and I became a member of the club as well, most of the 3 most well known sites have sales, so £5 per week goes in the kitty, who needs clothes
I am saving for a gift my daughter on passing  her GCSEs she fell in love with the catalogue bear that is just coming out (its the first non fur bear and each will be an individual print as they have all been made from one piece of non repeat material-steiff catalogues from the early days)
Gee sorry off on fantasy island again I so love steiff
Wow!! What a beautiful bear on that auction!!! What a price!!!
I can dream....when I win the lottery....hhmmmmm........
My bear doesn't have his button either - this tends to de-value an old Steiff by about half of what he would be priced if he did have his button - which is the only way we could afford to have Alfie!! Believe me - he was only a fraction of the price that this auction is going for!!!!
both are beautiful bears! i have a tedy compass rose with ox..not as old i think..the older steiff's are stunning! but $4,000. is out of my league! thats why we make them isnt it?! i have lucked into several smaller steif pieces while yard saling over the years.. paid 25 cents or under for all of them... i love a bargain! i really want a Bing someday! drool...deb
My niece acquired an old Steiff clown bear at an auction for an extremely good price. She sells antiques and linens on Ebay. She had him appraised and was worth over 2500 British pounds. She decided to send him to Christies bear auction in England last year, and to make a long story short, they didn't tell her to send him Fed-Ex and they refused to pick him up at the post. Due to postal stupidity he ended up being sent back and forth to England TWICE, and on his final return to Canada, was lost and was missing for over two months! She knew he had made it back to Canada and she just about ripped Canada Post apart, including calling the president of the entire Postal service. They won't insure antiques and she wasn't going to get anything from the insurance! Anyay, he FINALLY turned up in an "unclaimed goods" part of the post office and he was returned to her. Poor bear was so traumatized, my niece promised him he could stay with her forever! Here's a picture of the party she threw for him when he returned LOL!
Lol, he looks like King of the Hug there Brenda! Tell her if she ever feels like donating another of her rare finds, I'm always open
I've seen the Compass Bear Deb, they're lovely And I know what you mean about Bings, I'd quite like a Farnell Alpha Bear like Winnie the Pooh too :D
Alfie is so obviously a Steiff it doesn't matter, Sam And look what that guy went for! He wasn't even listed as a definite Steiff! I guess you just have to be lucky... *prays for luck rain*
Oooh, sorry Ellen, I missed your post!
Yup, Elsie is now Queen of my particularly teeny hug, which is not really hard as it consisted of her, and my little 'ISSYBEAR' Tang, who I bought when I was 15... he's too small to put up much of a fight :P
I guess we all need that lottery win... if I win big I promise I'll share the bear-related wealth around!
how exciting, Chloe! I have Teddy Rose and think she is really pretty.
Really? Wow, another Rose fan! Once I saw that this edition was born at the same time I was, I knew she was the bear for me!
