I feel  like I should be writing to 'Dear Abby'
But I need help trying to get my husband to see the light.  I like to collect other artists' bears. My husband doesn't get it. When I purchase a bear he will state ' Why are you buying a bear when you can make one' ..And I explain.."I can't make a bear like this..or I don't make this style of bear."  I have yet to complete my large bear I started as I am intimidated by it's rather large face!! he's a great husband ..except this little glitch . Any suggestions ?   bear_original

It's an appreciation for the art, that's what I told my hub the first time I bought an artist bear.  Yes, I create in the same field...but I also collect the art I appreciate.  Artists don't usually fill their homes with their own work, they tend to fill it with the styles and works that inspire them and speak to them.

I love to collect other artists bears and even if you love your own bears it doesn't stop you loving and enjoying other artists work.I usually tell my husband that it inspires me to look at other artists work or if necessary I just have to sulk and say I never have anything that I like-that usually works bear_grin

Does he collect tools?  You can point out he has different tools that do a similar thing.  It is what he likes.  Hubby doesn't collect bears but he collects live birds so he leaves me alone LOL.
He may never get it but as long as it doesn't cause arguments...

How cute!  Love the question!

I explained it to Rick this way....Nancy, or Judi or Sue Ann or Kimmy or.....made it...that makes it special-they put their love and effort and blood and sweat and tears into this bear, just for me!  I have to have it.

It works every time....so far.....but I do try not to press my luck......

Good Luck!

This is such an interesting topic.  Chrissi, you said it all so well.   I take the easy way out I'm afraid "What he doesn't know won't hurt him".   My husband doesn't recognise a new bear sat in the middle of my hug!!.

I must be very lucky! Glenn loves bears as much as I do, so I never have a problem.
But he does have a chuckle when I spend all I earn at a show on everyone else's bears!  bear_grin

I get the same thing..."why buy it when you can make it"....I just tell my Michael, "because I want it that is why I am buying it"....He says "o.k.". End of story....

My husband NEVER notices anything either..I think I will keep my mouth quiet ..He'll notice something is a little different when he feels lots of little eyes staring at him while he is watching tv.  bear_grin

He'll start feeling paranoid and think they are breeding.

Um.... quite often my collectors are also bear artists. We support each other's business by buying each other's bears. In fact, when I first started, my best customer was also an artist.... she gave me the courage to keep at it and strengthen my abilities. You could be helping someone else in this way by buying one of their bears and your hubby needs to realize that likely other bear artists are helping to support your bear business by buying your bears.

Or he may be like lots of 'em and never get it!  bear_rolleyes
