Oh Jane... you little devil!!   bear_happy    bear_tongue

Pauline, I used to be a Beauty Consultant for Estee Lauder, Knowing is a nice fragrance, my favourite was Beautiful.   She named it that because she invited friends over and asked each one what they thought of it, they all said 'oh it's beautiful...!' so Beautiful it became!

Talking of Chanel, has anyone tested 'Chance' - that's yummy too!!   Can't you tell I spent ages testing them - could only smell alcohol in the end!!       But there's soooo many!!!    bear_wacko

I can't start my day without a squirt of one of my favourites pretties and at the moment I'm wearing 'Youth Dew' by Estee Lauder, which I alternate with my other favourite 'Knowing' .. that's by Estee Lauder too.  When I'm out to impress in the evenings, I tend to wear 'Paloma' by Paloma Picasso ... I use the body lotion too for heady impact!  I absolutely love 'So Pretty' by Cartier, but I've just run out of that one .. sob! bear_cry

My daughter has a some gorgeous smellies, so I have been known to 'borrow' a squirt of 'Elle' by Armani, or Prada (by Prada!) both of which are scrumptious.  I also like some of the Dior perfumes ... in fact, I have 'Addict' on my dressing table and wear that from time to time too.  I wore Ralph Lauren's 'Safari' for a while, but I think it went off eventually (it's very strong, so only for special occasions) and now I can't wear it without a sneaking suspicion that I smell like posh furniture polish.

I can never resist a crafty squirt at the perfume counter when I'm out shopping and usually come home reeking!  I tried 'Angel' by Thierry somethingorother recently while I was looking for some perfume to give as a gift ... urgh yuk, what a pong ... won't be buying that one!  (Apologies in advance if that's someone's absolute favourite ... it was probably just not suited to my ol' lady skin! bear_tongue )

I'm not a perfume kind of person.  It usually makes me cough.  But when I do wear it, I wear Brighton "Laugh".  I do like the "light" fragrances from Estee Lauder and may try one of them.  I just remember being TRAPPED in a car pool with my younger sister who wore A LOT of Estee Lauder "Beautiful" and coughing and sneezing all the way to work!!!

P.S.  No offense to all who wear "Beautiful" as I am sure you don't bathe in it like my sister used to!

Hugs,
Lisa

So just... don't... say... the M word.

I am 40 and think I am headed down the same path too. I am regular but sweaty.  bear_ermm

Wow Jane - you have realized my life's ambition!

Getting back on topic here..... I only wear natural scents from the Body Shop. I especially like Vanilla. I also like to dab lavender body creme on at night and maybe spray a bit in my bed to help me sleep.
When in the garden I often pluck some lavender and rub it on my hands - it smells so nice.
At night I still like to burn incense - bought several lovely incense burners back from Thailand.

My favourite, actually my only one, is Paloma Picasso. I use it since it came on the market, can 't really remember how long ago, but I guess around 20 years.

I got other fragrances as gifts but never enjoyed them and always ended up with my Paloma Picasso again.

OOOOO.... so glad that you posted that link Chrissi... just the other day, I was searching the archives of TT, and couldn't find it!!!   bear_sad

I love scents, but rarely wear them unless I am going out with hubby for a special evening.  I've been wearing Ralph Lauren Blue recently.  To me it smells just like fresh lilac... though apparently it doesn't have lilac in it... go figure!  bear_laugh

I used to use single-note natural herbal room sprays before I was married, as I love a light, fresh smell of parsley, thyme, or lemon grass.  When my husband moved in, he hated it!    bear_sad   So, I was trying different ones on a monthly basis trying to find one that he and I both liked.  One day he came home from work, and said... "Oh, I REALLY like this one."  Of course, I hadn't used any room spray that day... I had made Beef Stew!  So, when my husband sees me headed off to the room spray/candle area of a boutique, he always says, "Why don't you see if they have any beef stew."  And we both giggle!   bear_laugh

I can't stand perfume. I love the clean fresh smell. I choke when someone near me has a strong perfume on.

I understand those of you who don't like fragrance. Some people really over do it and it's usually with some really heavy scent.

I've used Red Door by Elizabeth Arden...sometimes people confuse it with Red by Giorgio which is much heavier. I've used Red Door exclusively for probably 25 years. Once my family smelled it, no one wanted me to wear anything else. It's a light fragrance and I only use a little spritz. I forget I have it on but often I have people comment on it.

About 20 years ago when I was much younger and much thinner and living in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California, I often had to pick up people from the airport and bring them to the office. One day I picked up 4 men from San Francisco and one of them mentioned how good I smelled and another wanted to know what it was and another said, "It says grab me and kiss me, and never let me go." I was a bit embarrassed and said that I didn't realize it said all that.

I don't usually wear any perfume - but on the odd occasion I will wear Nica Ricci's "L'air du Temps" (think that is how it is spelt).  There is another one very similar by Hartnel that is called something like Heart to Heart, or something similar - both are very light and feminine.

I can't stand it when I am near someone that has put on so much perfume it could choke a horse!  Male or female.  Gag!

Yes, male or female, you're right Jane!  Those AXE body sprays that are heavily advertised in theaters -- and popular with adolescent boys, I guess -- are absolutely nauseating.  My son had one for a while and when he'd spray it upstairs, I'd be choking downstairs.  It's that strong.  I finally just threw it away when he wasn't looking and bought him some Polo instead.  Just in case.

Oooh, I love a nice smelling man .... yummy!  ;)

I used to work in the music industry and twenty five years ago happened to be at a gig stood next to David (Kid) Jensen (used to be a massively famous Radio One DJ here in the UK) ... boy did that man smell good, I don't know what he was wearing but it was good enough to lodge in my memory banks for quarter of a century!  (Yeouch, it hurt to write that bit! bear_tongue )

I'm with you Paula ...  bear_wub love Paloma Picasso and Estee Lauder's Youth Dew. I don't mind Arpege, or some of the other Estee Lauder fragrances already mentioned.

Sometimes when I have neither of my favorites left, I resort to Elizabeth Ardern's 5th Avenue or Red Door, but they are not perfumes I buy.

Have also been known to wear Estee Lauder's Aramis once or twice!!! I remember back in the 70's wearing it to work and the boys having a go at my boss for wearing my "perfume".....he was not at all impressed! I wonder why?????

A light spritz of vanilla musk when I go out. My nephew got one of those Axe sprays for Christmas and I went home from Christmas dinner with a terrible headache. They are pushing them as very appealling to girls but I think most moms hate them.
Best scent for the house--anything chocolate baking!
On the subject of the big M it's actually pretty liberating once you make it to the other side.

With apologies to all of you who are allergic... I LOVE perfume. I have close to a dozen bottles, wear it every day, and test it every time I go to the mall. My all-time favorite is Shalamar, which smells like vanilla. I also have Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Giorgio, Chanel #5, Obsession, 24 Faubourg by Hermes, White Shoulders, Violet Bouquet from Bath & Body Works, Clinique Happy Heart, CKin2U, Crabtree & Evelyn Summer Hill, and Love's Baby Soft. And various little testers I picked up at the mall.

I'm intrigued by those single scents, but can't decide which scent I'd like to try. Lilac? Hyacinth? Cookie? Play-doh? Apparently I need more testers!

Oddly, I don't like scented lotion -- they tend to be greasy, and the scent is usually too strong.

My husband's favorite is Anais Anais, but I can't wear it -- smells awful and makes me sneeze.

I try not to wear enough perfume to cause a cloud or choke anyone, but if I ever make your eyes water, just ask me to leave (or wash). :)

I still wear the same perfume that I wore when I started teaching 38 years ago.It was $19.95 then and is now over $100.Needless to say I wear it much less often now and certainly more sparingly-Shalimar by Guerlain. After 9 months of chemo and radiation (7years ago) strong smells still make me nauseous so I've never been tempted to experiment.!!! I love Shalimar too.  One of the few that doesn't make me cough.  I've been wearing it since I was a teenager and bought some for myself recently.  They have a new one that is called Shalimar light - fabulous!  Oh, and Tommy Bahama.  Neither make me sneeze, are light and are on my list.

Staying home with kids 24/7 I don't exactly get a chance to get gussied up and wear perfume much anymore!

They still make "Love's Baby Soft?"  My sister used to love that!!!
