It seems Edinburgh is not carrying glass pellets.  I looked all over Intercal's site and they don't carry them either.  My local supplier can't get them.  ACK!!!  Panic setting in here!!  I just bought all that was listed on eBay.....a whopping two pounds, which isn't much.  Does anyone know who else carries them besides CR Crafts.   I'm in a pinch here!!!  Pretty please!!

This also brings me to a question I've been wondering about.  For those of you who've used stainless steel pellets to add weight to your bears, have you ever had a problem shipping internationally?  Way back I heard a tale of Customs blowing up teddy bears that had steel shot in them.  Does anyone know if this is truth or fiction?  I certainly don't want to use steel shot and have one of my bears blown to smithereenies!!!

Any help provided would be a blessing.  I'm really sweating it here.  I have all these bears nearly finished but without their final tummy stuffins'.

Warmest, worried and pacing the floor, bear hugs,
Aleta

P.S.  And don't even ask how on earth I could possibly run out of something so vital.  Let's just say I'm an idiot and leave it at that, okay!!

I don't know how many pounds I have, Aleta, but I'd be glad to send you what I have.  I use the steel beads more than I use glass now.  I don't know if it makes a difference to you, but mine came from CRs.  I'll weigh what I have to see how much.  Luann Bowen also sells them . . . www.lulubears.com

Aleta...

You might wanna try a Canadian company called Disco Joints.  We order from them alot and they are a very reliable company to deal with.

Aleta,
I know Darlene Bennett here in the bay area sells them.  Let me know if you need her number or email.  Have you checked your area for the glass beads they use for sand blasting?

I get mine at CR Crafts so I'm not much help. Though now that I think about it I order 10 pounds a week or more ago and they still haven't arrived. Hmmmm.....

As for shipping SS shot internationally.... I've done it and had no problem but it was a small bear if that makes any difference and I enclosed a note to customs.  (my hubby told me that who ever got the note probably couldn't read english anyway!) The woman I sent it to said there was no sign of it being opened.

But I've also flown with my bears in a carry on and others in my checked luggage and had no problem while I've heard of others who have had their bags opened, even their bears ripped open. In fact someone who used hardpacked glass beads was stopped because of one in her carry on and they gave her a very hard time about it.

We should be issued a world wide 'License To Carry Heavy Bears' that will enable us to breeze through airport security and have a stamp for the outside of shipping boxes that will enable our bears to go through customs no problem too.

So.... I have no good answer for you, Queen...... depends on how lucky you are feeling! If you want to play it safe don't use SS Shot for over seas bears!

Hey Aleta.

You can definately find them with Disco Joints as Jeremy mentioned above and they are a VERY reliable source for teddy supplies, I've been ordering from them for almost 10 years now and they have always been helpful and prompt in shipment.

Cheers!

Hi Aleta. Disco Joints and Teddy Bears in Canada always has glass beads. We use steel shot in our bears and they go all over the world. We have never had even one issue. (TOUCH WOOD)

I have no concern with using steel shot. Our guys even go to the UK where I know they are very vigilant. No problems so far.

Aleta darling, I have a partial 10 lbs bag from CR Crafts and since I seem to not be making many bears as of late I would be happy to either meet up with you or plop them in the mail.  My little bridge in the driveway is closed today because they are removing a tree so I'm stuck at home for the day (poor poor me  bear_tongue ) but I'd be happy to do it any other time this week.  I'm not sure how much it weighs...heaven for bid there is no scale at this house.  The Apple Dumplings don't want to know how much they weight  :)

Let me know....

Awww Aleta, I'm always running out of stuff but not glass pellets yet! pretty much all my suppliers here in the UK stock them, and I'd just ordered a massive bag when a lady who used to make bears gave a loads of her old supplies to her mum... pot of beads included!

Good luck tracking it down bear_happy I use bear basics and christie bears over here, but I expect the shipping would shock you!

Hi Aleta,

Do you have a Harbor Freight near you. You could get the glass pellets used for sand blasting. Here's a link to the item on their website and you can also check to see if they are in your area http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d … mber=46426 .

Bearycheap and Gerrys sell them here in OZ. I use steel shots in all my bears and never had a problem with customes. I get my glass beads and steel shot direct from the supplier in Melbourne. I pick the up when I go over there. I get a 50kg of steel shots and a 50 kg bag of glass beads. Do a search on google for a sand blasting company or supplers you might find a local person. They use them for sand blasting machines and stuff.

I went to my cupboard last night and realized I was out of glass pellets as well!!! So I used my handy back-up....aquarium sand. I have several jars of very fine sand - it's been coloured as well - and it was only $1 a jar. I've also seen sand that is used to make small Zen gardens in glass jars and it's fairly cheap as well.

Thank you TT friends!!!  You've helped immeasurably.  Actually, it is measurable.  I think I have 30 lbs. of glass beads headed my way!!!  I shouldn't run out for awhile, but if I do, I have some other creative options.  Thank you again!!

Aleta, get a shovel and a bucket and drive over to Florida! There they use glass pellets for the beaches  that´s why they have a shortage in the teddy shops.
NOT kidding, that´s what I read of, since the erosion of the sand on Florida´s beaches is so immense, the pour glass pellets on the beaches...
FREE teddy filling for everyone

You have 4 more pounds coming from me, Aleta!  They are somewhat contaminated with a few plastic pellets and a copper BB or two, but maybe your bear won't notice.
