Marmite-and-Bee-Small.jpgHello all! I am considering entering a sloth into the British Bear Artist Awards in the beginners section, and I wondered if anyone could forward an entry form to me?  I don't know if the forms are person-specific or anything, so I thought I'd ask here: I've e-mailed the lady who gives them out and asked a question which she answered, but there was no entry form attached! I don't want to be pushy and e-mail her again so I thought I'd check with you guys first bear_original

HSo, I though it would be nice if everyone had a chance to post their entries for this competition in one place bear_original  I'm entered into the beginners category, and here is my entry, Marmite.  He's a realistic bear with a needle felted open mouth and paw pads, and FIMO teeth, claws and nose bear_original I've just added in the bee for fun  bear_wacko Anyone feel like sharing?

Aww, thanks Lisa... i do love him, but I'm still not convinced that he's technically good enough, in terms of design and seams and everything.... ah well! Hopefully being a beginner will allow for a few mistakes bear_tongue

I don't know about the BBA but do they require a 'plain background' and no props or it's automatically in the vignette category?

Many of the international comps do have these requirementrs, though unfortunately they've broken their own rules at times and allowed images to become nominated and win without conforming to the stated rules.

Just some thoughts to check up on, and Yes! I think it should be entered!!! I'm pretty sure it would be the first Sloth - and collectors & juries are always looking for the unusual that is well-made!

bear_laugh Tanks Bobbie: I'm just worried about the strictness of seam judging and felting firmness and things like that: I'm a little unsure about some of his seams being so obvious, and as I haven't yet been able to compare to other peoples artist bears in person, I'm never sure what's good enough... bring on Hugglets!

I have some other shots with just the one branch... do you think those would be ok?  Not so much a prop, just a 'display' XD

I have an e-mailed copy that Sue very kindly sent to me, so it's ok, panic over!

I'm a little confused about the catagories now though... the beginners contest is marked as: "Category nine -    Artist who been making bears for eighteen months or under, any size of bears or group of bears, dressed or undressed"

... so, does that mean there has to be more than one critter? And (more importantly) does it have to be a bear?

I think I'll e-mail her, just in case bear_tongue Unless anyone here can help?

My understanding is that it can be a single creation or a group together but I really don't know if it HAS to be a bear/s. The wording seems to indicate bears only and in fact looking over the forms there doesn't appear to a category for 'other friends' at all. I would definately clarify that bit before posting off your entry form.

Btw, I LOVE your sloth, he has great character and is certainly worth entering into the competition if the rules allow it.

bear_laugh Thanks Lisa :)

I'll e-mail the organiser on Monday, so fingers crossed it'll be ok!  If not I'll be looking out for other competitions to enter... maybe a photo based one would be better for my first time..

Yes I did, Cat, and there has to be a bear in there somewhere bear_sad  Photo's have to be in on the 2nd, so I'm pushed for time to make anything to add to the bear too, so I'm making a more realistic grizzly with an open needlefelted mouth and armatures with claws... fingers crossed he'll be finished in time!

Thasnks Catherine bear_laugh I've just finished him: he's called Marmite, as I think he'll either be loved or hated bear_tongue Do you think i should change this topic to one where people can post photo's of their entries? Do people do that?

leo2.jpgHi Chloe, Marmite is FANTASTIC, I'll fall over if you are NOT nominated - gooood luck  bear_smile   This is the first time I've shown my entry and the first time I've ever entered the BBAA so nervous!  Leo is entered in the bears above 16".  Here is a snapshot of his face for now.

Chloe, Marmite is just fabulous!! You are so clever, I feel sure that he will be selected for the final few. Best of luck, though I'm quite sure that you won't need it.  bear_thumb

I too have entered the BBAA in the beginners category, gulp. I don't know what I was thinking. I've been too chicken to post any piccies in case anybody thought I was crazy to enter since it's only my 4th ever creation.

Catherine, Leo is beautiful too. He has such a sweet face. I do hope you get chosen too. Will you come over for the fair itself?

Fingers and paws crossed for everybodies entries.  bear_flower

Oooh Catherine, I love your bears eyes... wish mine looked like that!  What fur is he? Good luck :D

Lisa, I want to see! Show us all a photo, I'm sure your bear is really great: your others have been!

Thanks Pauline, the only thing I'm worried about is the length of his snout... it's massive! I've done two felted snout bears, and they both have snouts too long for their bodies...

Good luck with the entries into the BBAA's everyone!  From what I remember, there isn't a stipulation for plain backgrounds for this particular comp .. just good clear pics with unfussy backgrounds.  The finals are judged in 'bearson' so to speak, rather than by photographic entry alone.

I haven't entered this competition, but I will look forward to seeing everyone's entries on this thread!  Great idea! bear_thumb

I too love Marmite's snout, it makes him special.   bear_original

OK, after much dithering here is my entry, she's called Kallisto. I had great fun making her and even if she doesn't get selected I'm still quite proud of her.  bear_flower

She's great! Do you make your claws out of FIMO too? I love her dress... wish I could make clothes...

I'm glad you both like the snout bear_original I quite like it, but I'm worried as one of the judging criteria is 'proportions'... I wonder how strict they'll be?

Yes, the claws are made out of Fimo. It's fun stuff to play with don't ya think? It takes me back to my plasticine modelling days as a kid.  bear_laugh

I have no idea about the proportions thing, what are the correct proportions for a teddy bear anyhow?  bear_ermm

I've always loved FIMO bear_laugh Lately I want to try working in Sculpey clay too, but I'm not sure you can get it easily (and cheaply) here in the UK... I've seen some amazing sculpture in Sculpey...

O.K. - here's my two - "Any Requests" and "Polar Huggies". The polars were hard to capture, so we took lots of pics for the entry.......and then Jeremy had a play with the bears and produced an animation  - it's on my website if you want to see - now called "Dances with Wasp"!!!!!!
