why do you need a blog?

How do you manage to keep both up to date and still get bears made?

These are just a couple of questions that have be gnawing away at me...
anyone willing to shed some light on this curious ol' soul?

Hi Sandy,  bear_flower
Well for starters, I didn't need a blog.  It is, perhaps, one of the best things I've done for my bear business though.  It gives people (family, friends, collectors) a birds eye view into my life and my interests.  It lets people see that I am multi-dimensional and wear many hats.  Family, friends and collectors can all see that I'm not just doing one thing.....but many things.  It puts a face and personality to me as wife, mother, artist, decorator, gardener.....ditsy blonde....you get the idea.

Blogging, for me, is easier than updating my website.  It's a whole lot more fun too!!

Warmest bear hugs,
Aleta

Edited to add:  Blog posting takes me less than 20 minutes.  That's much less time than I spend here on Teddy Talk!

What Aleta said!!

It takes me an eternity to update and reload my website, but only a few seconds to update or add content and photos to my blog.  Also, my blog is much more casual.  I contribute to my blog many times a week... and update my website maybe once a month, or more if I have many new pieces of work I need to feature.  But certainly not every day, or more than once a day!

I didn't need a blog either but as a journal lover and woman who really enjoys the blahblahblah of life, it made sense to keep my website my "formal" business place for my bears, and use my blog for shooting-the-s**t.

Make sense?

Let me put it another way.

If I had to update my website every day it would be a chore.

It's a delight, and something I can fit into a five minute time span, to post to my blog.

Click on the site & blog links under my avatar if you'd like a closer look at the very different "tone" of these two online presences I maintain.  You'll see that I look much more "multi dimensional" and infinitely more casual on my blog.  I even use phrases like "What the crap?" on my blog.  I'd never post something like that to my site.   I guess I'm just saying it's like having two different hats.  You wouldn't wear your baseball cap to church, right?  Nor your fedora to pull weeds.  My website is my fedora site; my blog is where I sport my baseball cap.

On other notes, just fyi, I never wear hats.

I don't "need" a blog... but I want it bear_original  It's kinda like talking with friends who stop by for a visit with what's going on with my bears!

I do my own upkeep on my website. I useed to be able to update it daily or every other day if need be, but it is getting harder and harder to do that. If I was better with organizing my time, I could easily keep up. I just have too many things I also want to do. lol

Aleta, Shelli and Laura.....Thanks for shedding some light on this subject for me.  bear_flower

Like Sonya...I do all my own website. I don't have any problem updating on a regular basis, it seems to come like second nature to me and I really enjoy working with my website.

I have tried this blog thing twice now and I just don't seem to have enough to write about...or maybe I do, but just can't think of anything that makes any real sense. I would like to do one, but it all seems too much for me....I guess blogging is not for everyone.

Thanks again for the insight.
Now I'll go back to my little corner and hibernate.

Other than uploading pictures of each new piece to my blog, I don't really think the two have much to do with each other.  Most of what I post in my blog is not really work related, it's just my personal diary where I post things that are bugging me or amusing me or making me think.  It's more like therapy, however it does let people get to know me for better or worse. *Cringes*

Think of it like this, it's the difference between meeting a shop owner and admiring their wares and store displays in a professional setting as opposed to sitting down and having coffee with them and getting to know them.

Sandi, I remember placing a similar question here a few months ago :)
I was full of doubt and prejudices...ok....I admit....I have a blog meanwhile
It´s fun and SO easy and I put things on there, which I usually would not put on my HP. Like pix from Vienna, or from holidays, or, as I plan, pix of spiders, that I took during summer, to work against my arachnophobia....
And Sandi, I think you have a great blog!
Have fun!

Thanks Gaby. I noticed you posted comments...and I have just posted a new picture of my little shorn companion.

I suppose if I just continue to post things like I have been doing, I could manage it and who knows...I might eventually improve.  bear_grin

Okay Sandi, I too am having a hard time with the blog thing, but joining Teddy Talk and now Art Cards, I am finding it easier to be myself and communicate on line with people of like interests.  I think maybe starting a blog now might be easier for me. I'm  almost ready to give it try.   bear_cry
