Hi there,
I just added a Feedjit Live Traffic Feed to my blog.  It's really cool and it's free - it tells you where your traffic is coming from  ie who's blog the person was at last and where they go next.  It gives you an idea if certain blogs are more popular or it just satisfies your curiosity, if you're nosey like me
If you check out my blog at the very bottom:  http://duffyantiques.blogspot.com/   there is a link a the bottom of the the white box that says "click to get Feedjit".  It installs in an instant.
                                               hugs,

                                               Brenda

That looks very nifty, Brenda; I'll have to give that one a look.  Thanks for sharing that tool & your link!

I've noticed this on a few blogs lately...like many North American things it gets just a tad confused between NZ and Aussie...apparantly I'm from Brisbane, Australia.  I wish, it's probably just a tad warmer there than here  bear_tongue

how do people find blogs, other than links between blogs, how do you find blogs on certain subjects???

Hi MJ,  I just figured out a new way yesterday   , after almost a year of having a blog (a little slow I know).   I was previously relying on the list of favorites in other blogs,  to blog hop.  There is another way . . . .

When you edit your own profile you will see categories such as: Interests, Favorite Movies, Favorite Books etc.   I noticed that each item I typed in a list format (separated by commas) became a link.  What could those be for I thought?   When I clicked an item in my own list, up popped all the other bloggers who have identified that same Interest.   So . . . . If you list Teddy Bears as an interest, you will see there are not very many of us out there in blog land!  If you pick something more common like Cooking, Gardening or Travelling . . . you will see several thousand bloggers that have an interest in each of those.   Then you surf the choices.

The more interests you identify, the more your blog will be discovered.  After I updated my list of interests yesterday the number of people viewing my blog jumped by a 100 in one day.

I also added the viewers link that Brenda mentioned.  It shows the last 10 visitors and also shows a country/flag.  Yes, it is a little off (my city was wrong, but the province and country were correct).  I think it is neat to see a foreign flag on your blog.

Hi Melanie Jayne

There are a few search engines dedicated to blogs (eg http://www.technorati.com/).  At work I use www.ask.com a lot - as I'm looking more for subject related rss feeds.

Once you're on the ask.com home page click on the blogs icon above the search bar and then enter your search terms - when you get to the results page you can sort either by "posts" or "feeds" - by using the tabs at the top of the page.  As most of us  craft bloggers aren't so specific about our blogs and search terms, "Posts" is probably the best option.  You will get some of those annoying aggregated ebay results, but you get those in most search engines.

Google also has a blog search function - just look along the top left of the google page - where images, maps, news etc are listed - click on the "more" and select blogs and search away.

The problem with most search engines within your blog host (eg blogger or wordpress) is that they will only link to pages from their own domain - and so you're only going to pick up those people using the same service as yourself.

I personally find most of my crafty stuff by sheer serindipity.  I'll start off on one blog and just by clicking links off their blogroll, and then the next persons and the next persons, I can discover all sorts of fun stuff.  Just remember to add each one to your rss reader or favourites as you go or you'll forever be hunting for it again!   bear_tongue

I also pick up lots of stuff from del.icio.us

Only me again with a quick thought..today it has to be quick as I am suffering from the dreaded lurgi...anyway...here is my concern: I added this widget to my blog ..I just wondered as it's quite clear where people come from and where they go after visiting ...do you think it might put people off a bit?
I do think it's neat though ..and will leave it be for a while just to test it out....but not sure everyone will go a bundle on it.

Hi Jenny,
I actually didn't think about that LOL!  Anyway, mine is at the VERY bottom of my site, so most people don't scroll all the way down.  They just look at the most current posts.  I don't think it will be that mine will be noticible to most viewers.  Maybe you could find an inconspicuous spot?

PS (me being nosey) What is the 'dreaded lurgi'?

Thanks Brenda...I am nervous about people tracking visitors...though I think it a fab tool I think it might prove a bit of a problem. That's only my thoughts...I am not an expert.

Dreaded Lurgi? Well let's just say you wouldn't want to catch it...it's a horrendous cold...my husband just came home..looked at me an and went 'GOD...you look like you have somebody elses  eyes in!!'..i feel like I have too!! bear_sad

Hi Jenny, Hope you feel better soon.

Do you think people won't come back if they know they pop-up on the radar?  Maybe I'll switch to the other selection that feedjit has . . . a map of the world.  It puts a dot on the globe, re: the country you live in, when you stop by for a visit.  Still has updates, but not quite so personal.  I'll try that instead.

p.s. Hope the Lurgi      (never heard that term before) leaves you soon.

That's so keeeewwl Brenda!

Ilzé has been writing private tuts for me this week, as I can''t figure out my own site's maintenance, so I've had her instructing me in using Adobe's Contribute software.

I'm going to inquire of them if they support MACs.

It was neat to see my entry 'visit' appear twice, as well as where I entered from and where I went out into.

As far as I can see, it reveals nothing about me.
