penquin-7.jpgpenquin-6.jpgpenquin-3.jpgpenquin-1.jpgFor about the past month, all I have done is work, eat, sleep, dream, drink, work Penquins! Saturday was the day... I had 42 Girls Scouts at our local GS camp for a Junior Mystery Day. The girls were 4, 5, 6 grade, they had no idea when they started out where they were going, or what they were going to do for the day. They arrived at camp and went to the nature center, where they saw a slide projector set up and 2 25 pound boxes of Fiberfil, and a punch of penquin skins in a bag. The day started out with my slide show of my trip to Antarctica, then they ate lunch. After lunch, each girl picked a penquin and a heart, sat around a box of fiberfill and started stuffing. Myself and a few of the adults started threading needles. As the girls finished, I gave them each a needle and thread and showed them how to sew up the back. Then, the challenge......all 42 girls and penquins had their picture taken, then just the 42 penquins, plus the 1 life-size that was stuffed that day, and the lifesize chick that I stuffed at home. After this, the girls got some information about Global warming and what they can do to help, a story read about Whiteblack the penquin sees the World. Each girl left with a certificate that they completed their own penquin, and a penquin-shaped handmade chocolate. AND...........................I left toatlly exhausted, but happy! Here are some of the pics.........

I am totally enthralled with the way you tied everything together, and paced the day so beautifully!

It will be a day that stays with some of these girls forever, whether they become a marine biologist or a Mom/Group Leader, who recreates Sat for the next generation. Bless you!

wow, good for you! I know that must've taken you so long to sew up all the shells. Is it your own pattern? they are adorable

It was a fun day, my only part was the penquins and slides, a council person did the global warming bit. The penquins are my own pattern. When I returned from Antarctica, I found a pattern for an Emporer Penquin Chick, tried to make it and got sooooooo frustrated I threw the thing out, sat down with my pics and made my own (much simpler) pattern to look as much like the Adelie Penquins that I saw. I will adjust these to make them Gentoos by adding a strip of white across the head. The chicks are all gray with black feet and beaks.
