Dolls N DreamsWe have lived here for close to 5 yrs now and this is the first squirrel we have had, so of course I had to feed him some apple!...what else do they like to eat?
DoodlebearsNuts, definitely nuts. We have our own friendly squirrel and I buy bags of nuts for him. He gathered them up and buried them in the autumn and now he's reappeared and goes searching for them, he is so funny to watch...we have nicknamed him Conker.

Laurie Lou BearsWe live opposite a large wood and you get to see plenty of squirrels-especially this time of year.They love acorns but not sure what else they like to eat.

Back Road BearsTami - we have hundreds of those little stinkers! They'll eat anything! Corn (fun to watch them eat it on the cob but it doesn't have to be) and birdseed are a big hit here. (Though we don't put those things out for the squirrels they seem to think it's ALL for them!)
q.D.paToOtieSWe don't have any squirrels where we live right now but we had 13 when we lived in Charleston, SC. I had named them after famous poets and just loved to watch them every day. They're quite funny! One time we had one chug the Hummingbird Feeder and then it went berserk in the back yard, doing flips, running up and down the tree. This was my homemade feed that had a ton of sugar. Me thinks he liked it!!!
We have what seems like a million squirrels as we live in what it called an oak hammock-huge Live Oaks on both sides of our lot. Dh would love them to go elsewhere as he has several fruit trees as well as a vegetable garden and the squirrels help themselves.

They chomp through the apples and drop the bits, to get to just the seeds.
Ruby Mountain BearsThey love sunflower seeds and you can usually buy big bags of them pretty cheap in the bird feed section!! We used to put them out in tins we nailed down and then watch thru the windows while the little buggers would shove as many as possible into thier cheeks. They also love to steal the dry dog food as long as the dogs weren't outside. Seriously funny watching them try to shove dry dog food pellets in thier cheeks!!

Little Bear GuyPeanuts are great to, they love peanuts still in the shells. We have tons of squirrels, one of there favourite things is Tulip bulbs :crackup: :crackup: they love to dig them up and eat them.

The last house we were in, we had tons of deer and instead of tulips, we just had green stems!!!

If you think those little fellas are cute, I've got a couple of dozen I'd love to send you UPS! We have tons of black, red and grey squirrels. Someone in our neighbourhood feeds them peanuts in the shell and our yard is a disaster, with shells EVERYWHERE! They are cute but very destructive.

Awwhhh, your little guy is so cute!! And he's probably thinking what a great change it is to get a bit of apple instead of nuts 
They do adore the nuts of course, but they'll give a try at just about any type of veg or fruit.
One was determined to gnaw through our backsteps!! 
All those trees and he was thinking our backsteps should be his whittle stick. Hubby poured some castor oil on the edges ~ ooooh, that worked! And a squirrel agrees....castor oil tastes horrid! :crackup:
Hearts Ease Bearsthey will eat whatever is not nailed down!! i adore squirrels but they can be destructive..especially if they migrate into your house!..tho i believe thats more the reds..peanut butter,,bird seed,,they never met a feeder they cant get into ( well almost) i watched a neat program about them once where the scientists set up these elaborate puzzles to get to the food..including they have to go into glass jar and then into a small rail car..down a wir...'they had to judge and catch a windmill to get to the next step//took them 2 hr top to figure it out and 15 minutes to run it once they had! my husband would send you our squirrels but im keeping them! they are sooo funny to watch! deb
Chaska, MinnesotaI love squirrels...They eat anything really. Nuts are great but I get those already shelled. I don't want the shells littering my yard. Corn and birdseed are a hit. Now if you really want to get into feeding them, they love suet! I only give them suet in the winter though because they need to have the extra fat during the cold season to stay healthy. Now you can buy suet at the supermarket and put it in a suet feeder. It is cheap. No need to melt it down. Just plunk in the fat in the suet feeder, hang it up. They just chew on it. The birds will love it too. But once it gets warmer, don't put it out for it will spoil.
Past Time BearsDaphne mentioned squirrels liking corn . . . here's evidence! I took the photo looking through a window in my bedroom. This is a fox squirrel which is the only kind I have in my yard.

Send me one Brenda!! I want a Black squirrel!!.. lol. I will never forget when I was in Toronto last year.. I thought the park was coverd with black pieces of landscaping cloth.. and then they started moving! I was so shocked that the "cloth" was squirrels! lol. :crackup: :crackup:

I'd gladly send you all of our black squirrels. I like the red and grey ones - at least they are pretty. The black ones look like rats with bushy tails. One of ours will come up to the patio window and do a "na na na na na" at the cats, at which point I have been sorely tempted to open the door and let the cats have a go!

Awe, poor little black Squirrels.. yes, send me a dozen.. heehee That is really funny, I think the black ones are pretty.. but then maybe because I've never seen them before.. and they remind me of a black cat.. lol. Mind you if there are as many as I saw when I was Toronto... I can imagine they would get annoying. we have a few red ones around here that like to dig tunnels like they are a gopher... lol.

We raised a red squirrel from a couple of days old until 8 weeks old, and then we let it go out in our back yard with a little house to live in. Once it was obvious that he could survive, so we re-located him to a forestry, for his own safety. He was the smartest, boldest, most mischievious little rascal we have ever had for a pet. He would go into my purse looking for snacks and treats and he loved green grapes, cherries and ice cream. He'd jump from one person to another, across a room (with sharp claws!), if he thought he saw someone eating ice cream. He was great fun though.

Little Bear GuyFriends of ours had one of these bird feeders in their back yard in San Antonio it's calld the Yankee Flipper, I have never laughed so hard in all my life. I'm currently at work so I can't get onto U Tube but there are some videos on there showing how it works. Basically it looks like a normal feeder, but it has a ring around the bottom of the feeder. When the squirrel puts his weight on the ring it slowly starts to spin and then gets faster and faster and eventually it flips the squirrel off of the feeder. I have seen these little guys hanging on with their front claws for dear life and then poof they are gone, none of them ever got hurt but they would keep going back to them.
