For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
My Mum and I have been talking for a while and we have decided to personally sponsor a trphy in the Comp - sort of the memory of my Dad although it's not being called that.
This is the annoucemnt in the mag.........
"Australian Bear Creations Awards – Artist’s Bear Award
Editor Sandra Wigzell has announced that she will personally sponsor a trophy within the awards.
As a bear artist herself Sandra feels that she would like to offer trophy that offers peer recognition and support to the entering bear artists. The bears that that are chosen by the judges as the 4 nominees in the artist categories will be judged by three judges who are bear artists themselves, their judging sheets and comments will be complied and the top scoring bear will be awarded the trophy. "
This means that the comp now has a few levels of awards
1/ 4 nominees in each catagory - which will be printed in the mag etc
2/ Voting for peoples choice - which then wiins -logo for the next year
trophy
personalised portrait of bear by MAureen Christie
3/ Winning bear in each catagory and overall Poeples Choice printed in mag
4/ The 4 nominees in each artists catagory judged by 3 artists and the top scoring bear will win the Artists Bear Award - sponsored by me the editor....and get lots of promotion in the mag!! (becasue I get to do that!!!)

Sandra, that is a lovely gesture
wow..what a great competition!! Where will the bears be travelling to? Are they to be sold on their travels? ( I ask because it says "All artists who enter the competition must be willing to sell their pieces, or have bears available for sale.")

Question one - I have been talking to Reed Exhibition and the bears shoul dbe travelling to Melbourne and Brisbane with their 5 day Stitches and Craft show so that they can be seen and voted on for Public Choice. as well as through the magazine.
Question two - the bear should be for sale but it is up to the artists as to when they sell the bears and to whom......and of course they can enter pieces that have already been sold as long as the new owners are aware that they will need to come to Australia and travel for a few months. It really doesn't mean that they need to be for sale while here. If a local collector sees the piece before it is nominated and offers to buy it, it could arrive here sold!
