Hi Ya'll! Mom and Dad took me along on a needed weekend trip to Fredericksburg TX. Fredericksburg is a small German heritage town with a BIG tourism business.
We made it to Fredericksburg after about a 5 hour drive. Mom wanted to visit some antique stores first. This poor cougar kitty...
Dad was having to learn how to use Mom's camera...OOPS!
Mom set me up on this rocking horse. Don't I look cute
She really wanted to buy it for me but Dad said that is was to expensive...Ol' fuddy duddy...!
More pics to come.......
Oh how I looooove Fredericksburg!!! Bailee does look adorable on the rocking horse and I see a lot of stuff I want in that photo, too. Bailee, you will have THE BEST TIME in that town . . . I could spend my life there and be a happy camper. Looking forward to more.
SHEW! It is hot here... Come and sit down with me!
We decided to go to the trailer that our relative has on some land there on the outskirts of town. While sitting there eating dinner, here comes a doodling across the lot is an armadillo! Dad said to stay away. They can be pretty dangerous. They may look cute, but they have long claws that can do some serious damage.
After dinner, mom wanted to go back to town and do some more sight-seeing.
She let me take my friend along with me.
Here we are sitting in front of an old historical Church.
Can you see us?
Here we are!!!
More pics to come....
I love the whole experience, keep the pics coming. How unique.
How cute! Love seeing Bailee and all the pictures. Sure looks like a fun time.
Evening came and we went out to the fairgrounds to see the fireworks display.
What a great time we had
The following morning we got up early and went into town and ate at the Ol' German Bakery. yummm
Mom just had to take my picture sitting on an Amish Carriage.
Later in the afternoon we visited "Wildseed Farms, Ltd" It is the largest working wildflower farm in the U.S.!
Finally, in the evening we just went driving around the countryside. Dad saw these incredible looking cows! They almost looked like PANDAS!
Maybe Miss Judi can tell me what they are called...
We had such a delightful time there in the Hill Country of Texas.
We hope to visit there again very soon....!
Looks like you had a great time there. We do a three day bear retreat every spring in Fredericksburg! It is such a fun town, just brimming with lots of little shops to poke around in - including a fabulous little wool shop that loves to see us coming.
If anyone ever gets the chance to go to Fredericksburg, Texas - make sure to stop at the Wildflower Center. It is just breathtaking to stand on the side of the road and see flowers blooming in every direction for as far as you can see. There is also a lavender farm not too far from there (about 45 minutes away), and if you go at the right time of the year, the peaches can be bought from fruit stands right off the trees along the side of the road.
I'm glad I only live about an hour and a half away. It's a great place to get away.

Oh, Bailee, what a WONDERFUL time!!! That church is gorgeous and I can just taste the goodies from the German bakery!! I'm jealous that you went to Wildseeds Farm...... wow! It's beautiful!!!
I'm not sure but I think those cows are Dutch Belted (my dad grew up on a sm. dairy farm and I remember him rattling off the names of cows when we traveled and drove past farms. Its definitely a belted something. Judi will be along to tell us, I'm sure!
Thanks for sharing your trip, Roxanne!
Luann - Retreat? In Fredericksburg? What FUN!!!
SueAnn - I want that green wooden chest..... fight ya for it!
Hi Roxanne, what wonderful & cute pics, makes me miss the Great Lone Star State for sure!!! Looks like you had a fun weekend, the bears too!
Yes, we really did have a great time.
It was really nice to do just what my hubby and I wanted to do. Eat when we wanted to, go to whichever shop we wanted. And just enjoyed each others company for a change... With no interuptions, no television. Just a radio in the travel trailer we stayed in. It really does a relationship good to be able to do this. And of course, the bears enjoyed the trip and the attention they recieved too!
Miss Sue Ann, The antique stores were fabulous...
Luann, Don't you just love seeing the bluebonnets and the indian brush flowers all over the countryside in the Spring?!
Oh, Daphne! Would it not be a great place for a retreat?
There are bed & breakfast's all over town. So comforting.....
OH Roxanne thanks so much for sharing your pictures and story with us, we have been there twice and love it so much. We didn't make it to the retreat itself but we did pop in and see the ladies while we were there, it looked like a lot of fun. The wild flowers are so fantastic and they are everywhere I was amazed even along the highway in the centre of the highway.
I'm so jealous that you got to see a LIVE armadillo , I only saw one and it was along side of the road (hmmm not moving if you get my drift).
Hmmmmmm Luann we are thinking of Coming to San Antonio in April for Fiesta, can we kill two birds with one stone and have a retreat at the same time we are there  . Cause Fredericksburgh is not that far from SA either heehee hint hint and then I could get my hands on some really good Pralines as well
.
big hugs

Well, I wanted that, too, but guess I could substitute the wooden box in the back. And the little chair just to the right of the box. And that white hutch/cabinet thingy behind the wooden box. I think I need a little antique-shopping-in-Fredericksburg fix . . . it's been about 10 years since I've been there. Anybody want to go with me?
That's it... that retreat... if it's not the same weekend as my April 18th show... I'm coming!!! Want me or not! Except I want to see flowers and go antiquing and eat pralines! OK, MAAAAAAYBE do a bit of bear making if I have to! LOL!!
It just looks and sounds like a wonderful place and I've never been to Texas! Course I'd have to make a side trip to visit Sue Ann, too!
Oh what fun you and the bears must have had! I would love to see all those wildflowers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So is this retreat a bear making retreat? That sounds like fun!
Beth
What a fun trip you must have had Roxanne and thanks for sharing your wonderful photos with us.
Hugs

Roxanne, I forgot to ask you before but what kind of comments did you get from people about Bailee and friend and their vacation trip?
Our retreat IS a bear retreat! Three days of all different kinds of workshops doing nothing but bear-related stuff. The very first year we had the retreat, it was in conjunction with an online group. I now host this event on my own, and it's always so much fun. The owners of the little hotel we have it at love to come down during the weekend and see what we are working on.
We've done workshops on airbrushing, needlefelting, painting fabric, eyelids, table displays, jewelry making (bear-related, of course), gollies, etc. Every year we have two or three different people come in and teach different workshops, which are always VERY affordable (always around $25 - $35 each). We have a very flexible schedule, so everyone can have plenty of time to shop in all the neat little places in town - and there are a lot of them. A lot of the girls come in a day or two early just to shop and get to the local bakeries early enough to get some fresh baked goods. We have a full kitchen facility, so we are able to cook all of our own meals as well.
There is plenty for the guys to do as well. If they like to golf, fish, hike or swim - we can accommodate them!
Shane - I'll have to check the dates for Fiesta, but we'd love to have you come. Maybe we can tempt you with those fresh baked pralines again. Daphne - we sure won't have it the same weekend as your show. It's always sometime in late March or early April. We've been thinking of doing one in the fall as well, but heck, Fall doesn't seem to get here until about December. Ha!
Luann
Wooohooo that would be so much fun Luann and trust me if I know I'm gonna get a praline then I"ll be there haha. We might even be persuaded to do a workshop too, ok when I say we it's the Royal we as Steve teaches the workshops I'm just there to bug everyone   .
I just checked the Fiesta website and darn it all Fiesta is being held from April 17 - 26th 2009 , well maybe we can work something out maybe we just have to come to Texas twice in a month or something lol .
big hugs
