Back Road BearsAutumn is my most favorite season... the crisp air and warm colors... not to mention apple pie and pumpkin bread!
I can't share the food with you but I thought I'd at least share some photos taken at the lake near our house this weekend. We also went to the local garden center for some pumpkins. It's about 4 days past the peak of foliage season... we've had some very chilly nights and windy days which have caused a lot of leaves to fall but I think you'll still get the idea of just how pretty it is here in the mountains... er... "back roads" of New England!

Plum Cottage BearsThank you for sharing your pictures, Daphne. How fortunate you are to live where there are real seasons. That's what I miss about the East, or San Francisco. In Southern California we have beach and smog. I can remember real fall. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Growing up on the east coast, I loved New England in the fall. The colors are beyond fabulous, I miss experiencing that. We don't get those vivid reds and oranges, here in Washington State. We have the trees, but not the cold dry nights needed to make the colors really pop.

Little Bear GuyFantastic pictures Daphne, I have to agree that fall is my favourite time of the yr. It's the chill in the air and it's the smell I love the most. The damp leaves on the ground just smell so nice, and of course anything pumpkin is always best in the fall mmmmmmmm, Steve likes pumpkin pie but it ends there. I like pumpkin everything, my favourite is pumpkin chocolate chip cookies yummmmmmm

Thanks for the fabulous pics! We went for a drive today to see the leaves, but lots of them haven't changed yet around here. It's been too warm, so the colours are late. Next week should be good around here.
I also love the fall season, best of all. Something about the chill in the air and the gorgeous colour. I was riding my bike the other day along a wooded area and I got sideswiped by a Partridge! They really are silly birds and obviously have no sense of direction. He better learn to hide before hunting season starts!
Riley is gorgeous, buy the way and I think he knows it!

I really enjoyed looking at your lovely photos, the colours are stunning especially that beautiful red leaf, is it a maple? I hate the strong hot hot hot weather in the Summer so can't wait for the sunny and crisp days of Autumn to come around. So sad though when all the beautiful leaves have dropped to the ground and we are just left with skeletons of trees! Still, there's always Spring!

Although we get pumpkins in supermarkets in the UK (for Halloween) people don't have a clue what to do with the "fruit" 
any of our "across the pond " neighbours got any fab recipies to help us out ? (oops , perhaps that should be a separate thread !

Beautiful, beautiful pictures Daphne....only last evening we were watching a TV programme here in the UK called "Stephen Fry in America...he is travelling through all fifty two states..and New Hampshire looked so lovely! The leaves are are falling here to at the moment...but don't have that wonderful intensity of colour...thanks for sharing! Oh...and Riley is so gorgeous!!!

Gorgeous photos! We mainly just have yellows here in the mountains--Aspen wich are beautiful but I would love to see the fall back east again! Those reds are stunning!! We do have some beautiful red maple trees throughout the city but not that many. I just ooh and ahh over the few I do see.

Waggle BearsBeautiful, Daphne. I'd take your "back woods" over the desert anytime. It's still in the mid-90s here and there's never a change of season. Even where I grew up, in the Center San Joaquin Valley, there were never colors like that. You live in a beatutiful place. You must love it there.

Our trees keep acting like its going to be an early winter Our Catalpas have already come and gone, but our temps haven't been cold enough throughout October. I can remember in the 80s being a kid, and by mid Oct, we'd already have the frosts! This warm weather for autumn just isn't on.
Mind you, Galahad my oldtimer is already in his sheet at nights He says its plenty cool enough, thanks!
