About 10 days ago I received an email from a potential buyer for my bear Barrett from Bearpile. I e-mailed the needed info and invoice to them. Then a couple days later, they said that they had been surfing the internet and found that a certain cell phone they want is cheaper here in the US then overseas and asked if I could find this cell phone for them and they will pay for it also. I thought how weird this is.... I replyed with a generous thank you for wanting to adopt my Barrett, but I have no knowledge in cell phones and would not be able to help them with it. <Also, I wanted to tell them "I am not in the cell phone business either"...but did not, for fear of the loss of an adoption> So then... of course....after a week now, I have not heard a reply back about the adoption  bear_wacko  crazy huh......

Sorry to tell you this, but this person was trying to scam you. I am glad you did not go for it!

Dear Roxanne,

Whew.  I'm so happy to read you didn't go for this 'deal'.  This particular scam has been around for a while in many forms.  But, it's all the same thing.  What they want to do is get you excited about making more money than just your item.   They will offer a "commission" or a "reward" for your help.  Then they'll send payment with instructions to take the price of your item as well as the extra they promised to pay for your effort and then send along the balance to a third party.  Guess what?  It's in the form of a money order and by the time you've cashed it and mailed their portion, it's too late to find out that the money order is a fake.  It usually takes the bank about a week to get it back.  The bank then reverses the entire charge back on you and you're out your bear as well as the addition money you sent.  Horrible, huh?  You did good!!!   Always go with your instinct.  They are preying on our soft natures
Hugs,
Cathy

Thank you all for your information. As soon as they asked about the cell phone, I cancelled the invoice I sent them. I figured that it was a scam of some sort.......
But like you said Miss Cathy, they prey on our good nature.
Miss Lady Bren, Well, I wonder who else that they e-mailed....?

Maybe you should let the guy who runs Bearpile know about it since more than one of you have had enquiries like this through there. He might want to give other members a heads up?
