Have you seen the new postal rates? Because of my move I was trying to sell-off some fur on ebay. I think I should have given it to one of us The fur was originally $200/yd. at Edinburgh Imports. I sold one yard to someone in Texas for $28.50. I used ebay/Paypal's shipping system. Shipping cost me $16.00! I had said free shipping because ebay has made a point of asking us to offer free shipping. I know I was dumb  I should have followed my original plan to avoid selling on ebay.

P.S. I have some domestic fur I want to give away, I can't see selling it. Anyone interested? You would only have to pay shipping costs.
Hi Karen, I don't know how you ship, but I use flat rate boxes when I can $8.95 for a regular size, or about $13.95 for a large one. I fit a lot (yards) of fabric in a big box. Ebay won't ship large flat rate boxes, so for them I use click and ship from the PO. Also I don't care what ebay says about free shipping, for bears I do, but for fabric I charge for shipping, only what it costs, but it just costs too much to just bite it.

Hey Karen let me know what you have for fabric I will gladly pay for shipping if you have something I could use

Ebay have got it sussed. Get us to offer free shipping, which we pay out of the sale of the bear or whatever, but they get fees from the whole amount, shipping included. I sure don't want them getting even a penny more than they already do. Its a mine field. We only really have Royal Mail, although we do have a few other carriers. That flat rate box system sounds great.

Wow, Ebay gets worse and worse!!
Amanda - your comment reminded me to say that, for UK residents, it is worth checking out some of the third party courier options - I found a great company on the web, called www.wedelivertheworld.co.uk
They are great for sending anything large and heavy (cheaper than Special Delivery), and fantastic for shipping anything abroad that is too big to go Royal Mail International. They mainly use DHL as the courier, but, because they pool all their orders they get DHL's maximum bulk discount rate, so the shipping costs are way lower than if you were to got to DHL direct. There are other, similar companies out there too - if you make big, heavy bears, they might be worth considering.
Hugs,
Christine
Wow! Selling a yard for less than $30 + postage must have made you just sick. I'm like you, I'd rather give it to someone who can use it than sell it for nothing.
I'd like to know what you have available, too.
