My father called me at work to let me know that someone called our home phone (I live with my retired parents) wanting to buy a bear I had listed on EBay. He said that they were calling from Sacramento, CA with a 916 area code and he didn't give out any info to them...simply took a message for me.
Now my dad doesn't hear so well and the message may well not have been exactly that. Still as I sit here at work, I am wondering how on earth anyone interested in any of my bears got the idea to call my parents home phone. Also and this is a big also I haven't listed anything with Ebay since early September. On top of that I always use my cell phone number in connection with my bears. Except when I set up my EBay account.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Also there is a company called Sell It on Ebay in Sacramento CA. I dunno, I suppose I'm worrying for no reason.

Hi Lisa
I know there are some independent franchises that will take your items and list them on ebay FOR you...They don't buy them outright. They do the photography, the write up etc etc . This works well for those who only have odds and ends...but not for bear artists...I wouldn't think.
They may be trying to scout around for business. But, I would worry too..how did they get that phone number?
Your Dad did the right thing, to just take a message

Thanks Lee Ann for the info. I did some more internet checking and evidently EBay actually promotes this somehow?!? So I guess that solves the issue of how they got that number. Evidently they are an agent of EBay. I would never do this and I'm a little annoyed at being contacted.
My poor dad was worried about not being nice enough in case it was a sale that I was working on!
