My BFF!!!!!!!
I read something recently about the famous bears that play with sled dogs......and amazingly, I actually remembered WHERE I'd read it...

The picture was cute, but Maria's story was sad. I hate it when people convinced they know better intervene and cause problems
I've never heard of it before but I went looking for more information.
It seems that polar bears and dogs play together all the time!

Never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it!
Great article Maria, sad but still worth reading. I guess you just never really know...............
My thought is you don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch.
And, upon reading the article, I kept thinking that it would be better to be around bears whose habits you know and can predict as opposed to unpredictable bears you have never seen before.
In other words, "Better the devil you know than the one you don't know."
It's true about territory protection. I used to have almost an acre of garden and I had one big woodchuck always in my garden. My neighbor trapped any woodchuck that came into her yard. She was over run by woodchucks all vying for her territory. THey destroyed her gardens. My one woodchuck kept all the young upstarts out of my yard and he did very little damage himself. Luckily, he preferred clover to most of my garden plants.

People think they know better than nature when it is usually better to just leave it alone! Maria's story is sad. But US Bears story was a joy to see. Really amazing! Let's hope the original bears make it back to play and protect the dogs.

I had one big woodchuck always in my garden.
Yay, Karen! I'm another harborer of "one big woodchuck." He also mostly leaves my vegetables alone, and it drives my neighbors crazy to see him having the run of the place.
Early this spring, when there were sunflower seeds scattered on our picnic table for the birds, "Chuck" came out of hibernation looking very thin, and sat there dining hungrily. I could imagine my neighbors: "And now they've got him eating off of the table!"

Becky, Be sure to tell them there is an ecological reason you have one big woodchuck
