to the cold of Northern New York.

My sister and I took my Mom to Florida for her brother's 80th birthday party. I left home on Monday, Jan. 18, by the time I picked up Mom (4 hours away) the weather was starting to warm up. We spent the night at my sister's (5 hours from Mom) and left in the morning to bright sunshine skies and much warmer temps (low 50's). Our trip down from there was all sunshine and warmth. Our week in Florida was bright, sunny, warm, (80s) slight breeze (except the day Fran & I went deepsea fishing which was very rough waters) Our return trip had a little bit of rain, not much to complain about. As I continued the last leg of my journey, after I dropped Mom off, I debated which way to go home. The roads were clear, at least on the interstate, so I decided to take the nicer drive through the high peaks of the Adirondacks!!! OOPS>.......after just a couple of miles on this road to nowhere, the snow started. The normal 3 hour trip took me 4. Got home, eventually, with no big problems, and the snow started for the next day, then the bottom dropped out of the temperatures...... I woke this morning to a minus 20 F............and I have to go to work today BRRRRRRRR I LOVE NEW YORK!  bear_wub  bear_original

pictures are of the fish that were caught on our deepsea fishing excursion. I caught a snapper and an edible shark, Fran caught a sea bass and someone gave us his Trigger fish............Anyone have a good recipe for Shark???? Can't post the pictures, my hubby messed with my computer and I can't edit my photos................sorry.

Not at all jealous of the warm week (she says through gritted teeth  bear_grin )  Sounds like a great trip apart from the last bit.  I had great fun driving through the Adirondacks in the snow visiting a friend a couple of years ago, but I just didn't have any expectations of how long anything would take, so a few hours here and there in the pretty countryside made no odds to me!

I'm a gourmet cook. I love to cook!! bear_original I have started a blog with some of my recipes. bear_original
Here is one I have used over and over. You'll love it if you like spicy.
Cyndee's Broiled Spicy Shark.
1 pound Shark fillets (3/4" thick)
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 tablespoon fresh chopped Basil
2 tablespoons Seafood sauce or chili sauce
1/3 cup Lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1 clove Garlic, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Directions:
Place fish fillets in plastic bag. Add lemon juice, parsley, basil, garlic, onion powder, cayenne pepper, chili sauce and soy sauce. Close top of bag and refrigerate for at least one hour, but not longer than 8 hours.
Remove fish from bag and save marinade. Place fish on rack of preheated broiler about 3 inches from heat and broil for 3-5 minutes. Turn fillets over, brush top with marinade and broil an additional 5-8 minutes until fish flakes or is done to taste. Boil rest of marinade until it's reduced by half and pour over fillets when serving.

Cyndee's Shark Steaks In Herb Butter Recipe.
2 pounds  Shark Steaks, rinsed in cold water and
patted dry
4 cloves Garlic
1 medium Onion, chopped
1 Lemon, cut into wedges
1 cup Butter
1/4 teaspoon Marjoram
1/4 teaspoon Seafood Seasonings
1/8 teaspoon Thyme
Salt - to taste
Freshly-ground Black Pepper - to taste
Fresh Parsley, chopped
Pinch Ground Oregano
Directions:
Melt butter in saucepan over low heat and add whole garlic, onions, seasonings and herbs. Remove from heat and allow to steep (one hour).
Place shark steaks in a baking dish and pour herb butter over fish. Cook at 350 F (15 minutes) and serve garnished with parsley and with lemon wedges to the side.
If you would like more let me know. I have several tested and tried. bear_original

Thanks for the recipes Cyndee.....I was told to soak the fish in milk for 30- 60 minutes before doing anything else with them. The second recipe sounds good.....don't care much for spicy!

Soaking your fish in milk helps remove the fishiness. If the fish is too strong it can over come other ingredients such as veggies cooked with it and you might want to soak it first. However Shark isn't that fishy.  But you certainly can do it. I dip Catfish in milk then in egg and then in the batter when frying it but I don't soak it.
I have many many fish recipes. All my own tested and tried and I also have many family ones handed down over 100 years old.
Bobbie I will let you know when my blog is ready. bear_original
