This is Thanksgiving weekend for us Canadian!  Made my turkey and had all my family over on Saturday - I like to have left overs for a few days before we head back to work!

Wow, I didn't know that Canada had a similar holiday.  It's one of my favorites and I don't even eat turkey (but I do love all the fixings)!

Have a wonderful day!

Canadian Thanksgiving is on the Feast of Saint Michael as it should be.  American Thanksgiving has little significance but to sell frozen turkeys and to get people to buy more stuff for Christmas.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to all our neighbors up north!

I'm sure there is a significant number of Americans that honor the true meaning of the holiday and do appreciate what they have, Randy.

Yes, there are people who celebrate Thanksgiving with reverence.  :)

I was just saying that Thanksgiving in Canada is celebrated on (or closer to) the time when the actual historic feast of thanksgiving would have taken place.

The feast of thanksgiving that our ancestors celebrated would have been held at or near Michaelmas, the Feast of Saint Michael.  Michaelmas was originally celebrated at the height of the autumnal equinox, which just happens to be October 10.

The Thanksgiving holiday we celebrate in the United States was declared by an act of Congress in 1941.  There had been several "Days of Thanksgiving" declared by various Presidents, namely Washington and Lincoln, but there was no officially declared, recurring holiday until it was declared by President Wilson in 1939.

I was not putting down Thanksgiving.  I was merely pointing out that Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on the day when our ancestors did.  bear_thumb

I wish we had a Thanks Giving type of event. I would be thankful for Turkey.  bear_laugh
Christmas here is more about ham then Turkey, which is a shame.

We always have Turkey at Thanksgiving and at Christmas, Easter is always ham.  Happy Thanksgiving to all the other Canadians on the list hope everyone had a nice day. Went to my sisters this yr and she had two smaller turkeys and sweet potatoes, coleslaw , mashed potatoes two types of stuffing and three pumpkin pies LOL (this was four people ) so yes I did bring left overs home, there is nothing like a turkey and stuffing sandwich with cranberry jelly the day after yummmmm.
