I NEVER draw a seam allowance on my designs.  That way, when I increase or decrease the size of the pattern on my photocopier, I don't need to worry about the seam allowance being increased or decreased at the same time.

Its the original pattern, its not scaled up or down  bear_original

When you draw your leg patterns is the seam allowance included? I always draw mine with it included so when I measure up for the footpad I remove a little bit for the seam allowance (make sure you include both seam allowances if you have a two piece leg or just one for a 1 piece leg). This may be why your footpads are a touch bigger then you need.

Oh yes,  I draw it with seam allowance included - so now I know how it gets a bit roomy, thank you.    bear_laugh

I seem to do it the opposite to everyone else:) I draw the footpad first, then measure the foot/leg from there:) I find it easier to get the look I want that way.

it's really a different way to do it, but if it works for you then its perfect.   bear_thumb

So very cute, nice to see a fellow Dane here bear_original

Oh Becky, I think I understand that, I'll make them a little smaller I think bear_original  thanks  ...

lisaastrup

thanks Mo Beary, but when I just double the length of the bottom of the foot, its really big enough, often to big I think  bear_original

lisaastrup

a math problem?

When I draw a pattern of a bear leg, is the sole of the foot so measuring less than the bottom of the leg goal x2 ?

I hope you understand what I mean  bear_happy  bear_happy

Yes Becky, I have seen a few on Bearpile, so lovely - I coud not belive they vere crocheted.

One is here, it looks sewn to me - I think I can see seams on the head and on the feet, but the
text say chrochet, strange....

Lisa, I use the backstitch as well when sewing in mini bear foot pads. I start at the seam on the center of the foot at the toe so don't bother tacking there as my first stitch will hold it in place there and then instead of tacking at the opposite end (seam of leg at heel) I hold it in place with a little alligator clip. Faster than doing the tacking stitches and has always worked great for me! On bigger bears I do the same thing but also put alligator clips at the center of each side of the foot pad as well.

I don't have space for a aligator clip, its very small bears on 4-5 inch    bear_original

I sew two sides at once!  Thread two needles, start at the 'toe' and alternate stitches (one left side, 1 right side).

that is a very good ide, I think that it migth help me, thanks    bear_thumb

lisaastrup

hi.

thanks for the answers, I use  stab backstitch, but don't secure the footpad before I start - will try that  bear_original

lisaastrup

when I'm sewing a tiny bear by hand, I sometimes have the problem that the footpad is kind of turning to the right on boths feet,
I don't want that, they had to be straight up/down, how can I change it ? I use backstitch.

lisaastrup

Oh, they are great all of them, the first bear and the elephant is my fav. , good luck with the show.

Wonderful bears you make. bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub

I would like to try my hands on a crochet bear, do you make your own pattern ?
Are the bear thread jointed or cotterpin ?

I looked for a pattern but no one make bear patterns like the style of your cute bears   bear_tongue
